He calls it light because he is comparing it with the eternal glory God has prepared for us. Our suffering may be heavy in the moment, but it is temporary. The glory God is working in us and preparing for us is eternal. This meditation reminds us that our afflictions are not wasted in the hands of God. What we go through can produce endurance, deepen our faith, purify our hearts, and make Christ more visible in our lives. We may be pressed, but we are not crushed. We may be perplexed, but we are not in despair. We may be cast down, but we are not destroyed. Whatever you are facing today, remember this: your pain is not the end of your story. Only the Word of God and the Spirit of God should direct our lives. Paul does not deny the reality of trouble. He says we are troubled, perplexed, persecuted, and cast down. But he also declares that we are not distressed, not in despair, not forsaken, and not destroyed. The pressure may be real, but the power of God is greater. This meditation is a reminder that our weakness does not disqualify us. Instead, our weakness becomes the place where God’s strength is revealed. We are fragile vessels, but we carry eternal treasure.
