The life and films of the German-French actress Romy Schneider (1938-1982) were full of romance and drama. She became known for the Austrian Sissi film trilogy from the 1950s. But her career after that was further broadened and deepened, especially in France. Between 1970 and 1980 she starred in 25 mainly French films. On 6 June 2020 at the age of 91 Italian composer/conductor Ennio Morricone passed away. Known for film classics such as Once Upon A Time In The West, The Mission, Cinema Paradiso. But his unmeasurable oeuvre also contains small films, unknown films, failed films, sometimes obscur films that he worked on with the same passion and innovation. This is a special about the music in the films of Dutch director Paul Verhoeven who lives and works abroad of the Netherlands. About the international films that he made since 1985. From ‘Flesh + Blood’ to 'Robocop' to ‘Elle’. Verhoeven worked together with composers such as Jerry Goldsmith, Anne Dudley en Basil Poledouris. Paul Verhoeven himself can also be heard in this podcast in a fragment of an interview that then KRO-colleague Martijn Grimmius and I made in 2012. Verhoeven talks about his cooperation with Jerry Goldsmith for 'Basic Instinct'.

Between 2005 and 2012 french composer Alexandre Desplat created and conducted the scores of 3 films that are dealing with the tense relationship of the United States of America and the Arab region: Syriana in 2005, Argo in 2012 and Zero Dark Thirty in 2012. There's something special about the scores I discovered in 2014 when I asked Alexandre Desplat about it in a Q&A in London. This podcast is the english version of 'Nacht van de Filmmuziek'.
