The World Between Us
The manufacturer is currently addressing a wide range of safety concerns across several vehicle models, involving issues that range from mechanical failures and fire risks to advanced driver-assistance system vulnerabilities and interior trim defects.Mechanical and Powertrain Concerns Significant recalls have been issued due to software and hardware faults that can lead to vehicle rollaways or loss of power. For certain 2025 SUV models equipped with 2.3-liter engines, a fault in the powertrain control module software can cause intermittent resets. This can result in power loss while driving or damage to the parking pawl, preventing the vehicle from remaining in "Park" and increasing the risk of it rolling away. A separate recall affects over 272,000 electric and hybrid vehicles due to a faulty integrated park module. In these vehicles, a mechanism may bind and prevent the transmission from locking into park, which could also lead to unintended movement if the electronic parking brake is not engaged.Additionally, an investigation is underway regarding older pickup trucks from the 2015–2017 model years. These vehicles may experience unexpected transmission downshifts to lower gears without warning, sometimes accompanied by temporary rear-wheel lockups or skidding, which can cause a loss of control.Fire Risks and Structural Safety More than 119,000 vehicles across multiple model lines have been identified as having a fire risk due to faulty engine block heaters. Coolant may leak into the heater's electrical pins, causing a short circuit when the heater is plugged in. Owners have been advised not to use these heaters until a permanent fix is available.A critical safety recall has also been issued for certain recent compact SUVs and pickups regarding improperly assembled suspension components. In some cases, a ball joint may separate from the steering knuckle, leading to a complete loss of steering control. This has resulted in a "Do Not Drive" order for affected units until they are inspected and repaired.Automation and Interior Defects Federal investigations into partial automation systems have highlighted concerns over driver overreliance and ineffective monitoring. Reports indicate that system failures to detect stationary vehicles or distinguish driver distraction have contributed to fatal crashes. Recommendations include stricter oversight and changes to the software to reduce speeding and improve driver attention.Inside the cabin, over 548,000 large SUVs are being recalled because the chrome plating on the center console may bubble and peel. This creates sharp edges that have already caused numerous hand and finger injuries to occupants.Owner Rights and Recall Procedures Owners can check for unrepaired recalls by using their 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) through official manufacturer or government portals. Most recall repairs are performed free of charge at authorized dealerships. For individuals who paid to fix a problem before a formal recall was announced, the manufacturer provides a reimbursement plan. This typically requires original receipts and documentation of the repair to prove it specifically addressed the now-recalled defect. In cases where a remedy is not yet available, manufacturers may offer alternative transportation, such as rentals or towing services, particularly for vehicles under "Do Not Drive" orders.
