About Odd Woman Out

Odd Woman Out provides a space where women in the arts can reclaim their narratives and have fun while doing so! Hosted by Samantha Dawn Tuozzolo — affectionately known as “Tutz”— the show shines a light on the subtle and not-so-subtle ways women have been made to feel “othered” when being their odd selves. Whether on stage, behind the scenes, or in their everyday creative lives. Through honest conversations and unfiltered storytelling, Tutz and her guests open up about insecurities, resilience, and the power of showing up as their full selves. Each episode dismantles the pressures of appearance, judgment, and comparison that too often overshadow women’s achievements. From self-doubt to self-love, these discussions go beyond surface-level success to reveal the courage, creativity, and community that thrive when women support one another. Odd Woman Out is for embracing our odd and loving ourselves while doing so. It’s for women who know the struggle of standing in spaces not built for them and for those ready to rewrite the rules. If this podcast helps even one woman feel seen, validated, and a little more in love with herself — it’s doing exactly what it was created to do!

episode 16 | mckenzie kurtz

This week on Odd Woman Out, Tutz sits down with McKenzie Kurtz — and honestly? Theatre kids everywhere are going to lose their minds a little. Currently starring as Betsy in the Tony-nominated musical Schmigadoon! on Broadway, McKenzie has been living the kind of résumé that feels fake until you realize she’s actually done all of it. The 20th Anniversary Glinda in Wicked? Check. Original cast of Heart of Rock and Roll? Yep. Recently serving full chaos and comedy as Heather in Heathers off-Broadway? Obviously. Recorded at the Welcome to Times Square Studio, this episode is funny, honest, nostalgic, chaotic in the best way, and very “what happens when the girl who grew up obsessively loving theatre actually makes it… but stays cool?” McKenzie opens up about growing up completely theatre-obsessed, finding herself in this industry, and navigating what it means to sometimes feel like the odd woman out while still carving your own lane anyway. We get into the joy of performing in a Tony-nominated musical, the pressure and magic of stepping into iconic roles, and why laughter backstage might honestly be the thing keeping everyone alive during eight shows a week. We talk: • Life inside the Tony-nominated world of Schmigadoon! • Becoming the 20th Anniversary Glinda in Wicked • The surreal experience of joining original Broadway casts • Her recent turn as Heather off-Broadway in Heathers • Growing up as a theatre kid and never letting go of the dream • Feeling like the “odd woman out” while finding confidence in yourself • Why comedy, chaos, and laughter are essential backstage survival tools This episode is powered by WelcomeToTimesSquare.com — the billboard where you can be a star for a day. episode episode 15 | tess marshall artwork

episode 15 | tess marshall

This week on Odd Woman Out, Tutz sits down with Tess Marshall — and trust me… this girl did not come to play. Currently a swing, dance captain, and the cover for Céline herself in the Tony-nominated fever dream that is Titaníque, Tess is the definition of “no backup plan, just vibes and talent.” And somehow? It’s working. Extremely well. Recorded at the Welcome to Times Square Studio, this episode is chaotic in the best way — honest, hilarious, inspiring, and very “wait… how many times did the industry tell her no before she turned around and booked THIS?” Tess gets real about what it actually means to survive as a performer in New York while continuing to bet on yourself over and over again. We talk about swinging one of the wildest shows on Broadway, leading backstage as dance captain, and stepping into Céline Dion-level insanity at a moment’s notice. But that’s not all — because naturally, this queen also coaches actors AND fronts a rock band. Casual. We get into the rejection, the resilience, the delusion required to keep going (complimentary), and why having absolutely no backup plan might’ve been the smartest thing she ever did. We talk: • Life backstage at Titaníque and covering Céline Dion • What it actually takes to survive as a Broadway swing • Dance captaining while also performing at the highest level • Coaching actors and helping other artists level up • Her rock band era and embracing every side of herself • Pushing through rejection, burnout, and all the “no’s” • Why sometimes the only plan is… keep going This episode is powered by WelcomeToTimesSquare.com — the billboard where you can be a star for a day. If you’ve ever been told “maybe you should have a backup plan,” only to fully ignore that advice and keep chasing the thing anyway… this one’s for you. episode episode 14 | daphne rubin-vega artwork

episode 14 | daphne rubin-vega

This week on Odd Woman Out, Tutz sits down with Daphne Rubin-Vega — and yeah… we’re talking icon behavior only. You know her as the original Mimi Marquez in Rent (a role that literally redefined Broadway), Daniella in the In the Heights movie, a Tony nominee, and now lending her voice to the wildly popular Hazbin Hotel. Casual résumé… absolutely stacked. Recorded at the Welcome to Times Square Studio, this episode is exactly what you want it to be — unfiltered, electric, a little chaotic in the best way, and very “how has she done ALL of this and stayed this real??” Daphne gets into what it was actually like being at the center of Rent when it exploded — the pressure, the magic, the moments that changed her life (and the industry) forever. We talk about carving your own lane before that was even a thing, and how she’s continued to evolve across Broadway, film, TV, and voice work without ever losing herself. We also get into longevity — what it takes to keep showing up in an industry that constantly shifts — and why embracing your “odd” might actually be the whole point. We talk: • Creating Mimi Marquez and being part of a Broadway revolution • The impact of Rent then vs. now — and why it still hits • Moving between stage, screen, and voice work without losing your identity • Reinvention, resilience, and staying unapologetically YOU This episode is powered by WelcomeToTimesSquare.com — the billboard where you can be a star for a day. If you’ve ever felt like you didn’t quite fit the mold, had to create your own space, or just want to hear from a woman who’s been doing it her way since day one — this one’s for you. episode episode 13 | marissa jaret winokur artwork

episode 13 | marissa jaret winokur

This week on Odd Woman Out, Tutz sits down with Marissa Jaret Winokur — and I mean… icon behavior only. You know her as the Tony Award–winning Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray, the literal first winner of Celebrity Big Brother, and a TV/film queen who has somehow stayed booked, busy, and fully herself through every era of this industry. Recorded at the Welcome to Times Square Studio, this episode is exactly what you want it to be — unfiltered, nostalgic, a little spicy, and very “wait… they used to ask WHAT in interviews??” Marissa gets real about what it was like coming up during Hairspray when the conversation around body image was… not it. We’re talking interview questions about being plus size and “confident” that would absolutely not fly today — and how she navigated that while still becoming one of the most beloved Broadway leads ever. We also get into how much the industry has (and hasn’t) changed, what it means to own your narrative, and why she’s still out here doing what she loves — including touring with Mamma I’m a Big Girl Now and bringing that same Tracy Turnblad energy to a whole new chapter. We talk: • How Hairspray changed Broadway… and how Broadway still has catching up to do • Winning Celebrity Big Brother and what reality TV actually teaches you about yourself • Owning your confidence when the world is trying to define it for you • Staying relevant, resilient, and fully YOU in an industry that loves to put people in boxes This episode is powered by WelcomeToTimesSquare.com — the billboard where you can be a star for a day. If you’ve ever questioned where you fit, been told who you’re supposed to be, or just want to hear from a woman who’s been breaking the mold since day one — this one’s for you. episode episode 12 | kandi burruss artwork

episode 12 | kandi burruss

About This week on Odd Woman Out, Tutz sits down with Kandi Burruss — and yeah… she’s done everything. You know her from The Real Housewives of Atlanta (icon behavior), but that’s just one chapter. She’s a Grammy-winning artist, Broadway actress most recently seen in & Juliet, and now a FIVE-time Broadway producer with Joe Turner’s Come and Gone coming next. Casual. Recorded at the Welcome to Times Square Studio, this episode is exactly what you want it to be — unfiltered, wildly honest, and full “how is she doing all of this?” energy. Kandi gets into what Housewives really taught her (hint: business moves > drama), what it’s like watching her daughter step into the spotlight on Next Gen, and how she’s built an empire that somehow spans music, TV, Broadway, and beyond… without losing her mind. We also get into balance — or whatever version of it actually exists when you’re booked, busy, and producing Broadway shows — plus trusting your instincts, staying ten steps ahead, and knowing when to pivot versus when to double down. We talk: • What she actually learned from Housewives — and how it made her sharper in business • Watching her daughter step into her own spotlight (and what that feels like as a mom) • Going from reality TV to Broadway — and why she never boxes herself in • Producing on Broadway and stepping into legacy with August Wilson • Building an empire while still showing up fully in every lane If you’ve ever wondered how to do it all — or at least make it look like you are — this one’s your blueprint.
