One “Yes” @ A Time
In the final episode of season 2 of the One Yes At A Time podcast, Keidra and Susan discuss self-control as a fruit of the Holy Spirit, rather than mere discipline or human willpower, contrasting it with cultural ideas like “follow your heart” or “if it feels good, do it.” Citing Jeremiah 17:9 they reveal it is our very own heart that can so easily deceive us. Pointing to Proverbs 25:28, they describe lack of self-control as broken down walls that leave believers spiritually exposed and use Genesis 4:7 to explain that sin is “crouching at the door” but needs an invitation to “come in.” They connect self-control to walking by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16) and God’s gift of power, love, and self-control/sound mind (2Timothy 1:7). Using supporting scriptures they mention areas of life that require self-control and how applying God’s Word helps. They urge listeners to acknowledge areas of life that are out of control, confessing these to God as sin, finding out what God’s Word says about these areas of life and putting His words into practice. They point to the return of Jesus as motivation for living a self-controlled life. The episode ends with an announcement of a summer break and a prayer for believers to stay in God’s Word and keep putting it into practice.
