It’s so funny how this happens. I’m recording this episode about the importance of rest, and then within 1 hour of recording I’m thinking that it’s too long so I should edit more, I remember a story that would be a WAY better example, and the idea pops in that I should re-write the outline and re-record during a time I’m not scheduled to work on it and publish it later… What a perfect opportunity to take my own advice I did share. “What’s done is enough,” my rest during non-work time is equally valuable, and my own value doesn’t come from a “perfect” episode. Do you ever start to think that feeling rested simply means you just need more sleep (or less work)? Me too. But I think we both know it isn’t. It’s just one answer and often the easiest. That’s totally fine that our brains think of that first, and I’m curious enough to expand my “choose all that apply” options for living more rested. How about you?  I’m both realizing and remembering that what I want rest for is more than physical, it’s also mental and emotional. And while I love sleep as one way to restore and nourish oneself in all 3 areas, I turned to the 6 P’s to consider more healthy habits that promote living rested, even when sleep is not an option right now, when sleep isn’t even the underlying issue, or isn’t necessarily the needle-moving solution. I'm recognizing that in a lot of ways, rest has more to do with being able to tap into increased self trust and a parasympathetic response.
