The Smallest Habit That Could Be Affecting Your Health

I want to talk about something today that might seem really trivial at first. But for me, it turned out to be a major game-changer in my health. Welcome to Quantum Waves of Wellness. I’m your host, Dr. Paula Apro—Doctor of Natural Medicine, holistic health mentor, and your guide to unlocking the healing power within. Today, I’m going to share a personal story about seemingly safe substances that we consume every single day and how they can quietly have a huge impact on our health. For most of my life, I suffered from ridiculously itchy ears. The urge to itch my ears was overwhelming, and it literally put me in danger when downhill mountain biking or driving my motorcycle. Knowing it wasn’t safe, I still just HAD to take one of my hands off the handlebars to scratch my ears. I went to see an ear, nose, and throat specialist, and he offered me about 5 minutes of his time and handed me a food allergy list of the things that I should avoid, while writing me a prescription for an ointment to drop into my ears. I gotta say, that ointment, whatever it was, worked like a charm. One drop and I had immediate relief. Problem solved, right? Wrong. When my insurance company decided they would no longer cover it and I found out the tiny bottle of ointment would cost me hundreds of dollars a month, I went back to suffering with itchy years. For YEARS. Most of my life, in fact. Until about four years ago, when I went to see an iridologist. This is somebody who studies the color variations of the iris of your eyeballs and links this information back to your health status. I was always curious about this modality, and during that session, I was told that spices and seasonings were one of the biggest stressors on my system. Specifically, that they were putting a burden on my kidneys and were linked to uric acid. At the time, I was also dealing with gout in one of my toes. So I already knew my body was struggling with something inflammatory. That part wasn’t a mystery. But spices? They were never on my radar. I spent years trying to figure out what foods caused the problems until I finally gave up and determined that EVERYTHING made my ears itch. So this was a very interesting discovery. I followed her advice to be very strict about what I use. Positively no onion or garlic powder (which is used in nearly everything in a restaurant), and I was also instructed to never touch anything with additional flavoring, especially potato chips. I followed this advice and threw away almost all of my spices. Just about all of my cooking is as bland and tasteless as can be, but guess what? My itchy ear problem has almost completely subsided. Now I just want to remind you that when you have a symptom, and it can be anything, it’s your body’s way of trying to tell you something. Yes, I get that itchy ears aren’t life-threatening, and I could have easily lived the rest of my life with the itchiness. But that was a sign that my kidneys were struggling, and the next symptom that showed up (the gout in my toes) was my next message. Not many people might connect itchy ears to painful toes, but for me, they were absolutely connected. And I should also mention that my fingers were also starting to get swollen, stiff, and very sore. All of this has been resolved. My toes and fingers shrank back to normal size with no more pain, and I pretty much forgot all about this story. Until last month . . . My stepdaughter came to stay with us for about a month, and she is an amazing cook. Everything she made was full of flavor, and I really enjoyed eating tasty food again. But within a few days, I noticed something. My ears started itching again. Not occasionally—almost constantly. And it hit me pretty quickly. Nothing else had changed. The only real difference was what I was eating. The seasonings were back. It was such a clear reminder that my body hadn’t forgotten. And then, almost right after she left, I came across a video on YouTube all about spices that I will share in the show notes. The timing was perfect because it reinforced everything I had already experienced firsthand. The video breaks down something that most people don’t think about. We assume spices are harmless, clean, and maybe even beneficial. But when you actually look at what’s in a lot of these blends… It’s not just herbs and spices. There are fillers. Anti-caking agents. Preservatives. Ingredients labeled as “natural flavors,” which can mean a lot of different things...usually all toxic. Sometimes, even added sugars. And it made me think about how careful so many people try to be. We buy organic foods. We avoid processed foods. We read the nutrition labels. But then we reach for something we use every single day—without ever really thinking about it. And that’s the part that struck me the most. It’s not always the big things that we have to watch out for (like going to McDonald’s or eating a ½ gallon of ice cream). It’s the small things that we do consistently and constantly. Those things that we don’t even think twice about. For me, it showed up as itchy ears. For someone else, it might show up very differently. But the point is, the body notices and tries to let you know if there’s a problem. I just want to take this opportunity to encourage you to watch that video and take a good hard look at your spice rack. Maybe even get curious enough to experiment a little. Try removing something for a period of time and see how your body responds. Then bring it back in and notice what changes. And don’t forget that I can test you, energetically speaking. I can tell if any substance is negatively affecting your energy and therefor your health. If you’re interested in that service, please just reach out. Sometimes the answers we’re looking for are hiding in the most unexpected places, and I can help you uncover them. Thanks so much for listening to this episode of Quantum Waves of Wellness. episode Less Is Always More artwork

Less Is Always More

We live in a world that constantly tells us we need more of everything. More products to buy, more choices to make, and more information to take in. It never seems to end, and the more we have, the more we seem to need. I am as guilty as everyone else when it comes to this, and especially as it relates to information and healing tools. At what point will I decide that I have enough? Hello and welcome to another episode of Quantum Waves of Wellness. I’m your host, Dr. Paula Apro—Doctor of Natural Medicine, holistic health mentor, and your guide to unlocking the healing power within. Today, I want to explore a simple but powerful concept: less is always more. And how simplifying your life can dramatically shift your health, your energy, and your peace of mind. I just happen to be in a good place to make this observation. You see, for the past 4 months I’ve been living in our new, much smaller house. We like to call this “our cabin in the woods.” We relocated from Maine for the winter, hauling a small enclosed motorcycle trailer, filled mostly with new items for the new house and a boatload of my husband’s tools. I kept the items that I brought to a minimum due to the limited space, not only in the truck and trailer, but also in the much smaller house. This means that I’m living with a small fraction of my wardrobe, a sampling of my kitchen gadgets, and, more importantly, only a couple of healing tools from my vast collection back at home. And I gotta say, this “living with less” experience has been very powerful for me. The first time this thought struck me, I was standing in front of our shared six-foot closet rather than my very own large walk-in closet that I’m accustomed to at home. I quickly realized that with fewer options, getting dressed became much easier. At first, I missed all of my usual clothing options, but I got over that pretty quickly. I noticed the same thing in the kitchen. Instead of an overstuffed pantry filled with random ingredients and spices I rarely use, now, I simply buy what I need for the week, and that’s it. Dinner decisions became easier, and there was no staring at the pantry wondering what to make. These things made me realize something… We are so accustomed to thinking that more choices are better. But have you ever sat at a restaurant reading through a 15-page menu and the server keeps coming back while you’re still trying to decide what you want? Many times, fewer options are just so much easier. Too many choices can create mental fatigue and pressure. I know... with food, choices are usually a good thing. But less is still more when it comes to quantity. Yes, food is necessary. We need it to survive, but more is never better—especially with the quality of food available today. The more we consume, the more we expose ourselves to additives, chemicals, and pesticides. So even when we think we’re doing something healthy, like eating lots of fruit and veggies, we may actually be increasing the burden on the body. Sometimes, giving the body less to process is one of the most supportive things we can do. And then there’s our environment. We’re conditioned to believe that bigger is better. Bigger homes, more space, more stuff. I learned this lesson firsthand this winter. Smaller is so much more freeing. It’s less to manage, less to clean, and less to maintain. And we can’t ignore one of the biggest sources of overload, which is media. The constant stream of fear-mongering news and social media is overwhelming. It’s all designed to trigger fear and stress, and it works like a charm. This has a direct negative impact on your nervous system and your energy. So therefore, the less you consume, the more stable, calm, and clear you can feel. And who doesn’t want to feel more calm and clear? But the biggest lesson for me this winter… was regarding my healing tools. At home, I have what I would honestly call an overwhelming number of tools. And one might ask, “If any of them really worked, why would I need so many?” And that is a fair and valid question and point, which leads to my biggest guilt when it comes to “too much.” I can’t seem to stop taking in information, education, knowledge, etc. I learn about all kinds of ways to heal the body, and I can’t stop myself from diving in and trying them. But this created the same problem of the overstuffed closet. Too darn many choices, so it’s harder to stay focused and consistent. Here in the cabin, I only brought four tools with me. A very small subset of what I have at home. And something really interesting happened. Because I had fewer options, I used them more consistently. I became more focused and more intentional. It was magical, and I developed a much deeper appreciation for each one. Space didn’t allow me to bring my big and powerful equipment. I only brought the small handheld devices that could fit into my purse. Maybe back home, when I had my full inventory, I didn’t give these tools the full credit they deserved. I want to share just a couple of instances where I used these tools over the past month that made me really appreciate just how powerful these little suckers are... Adjusting to southern cooking has been… an experience. I’ve never been to a BBQ house before, I still don’t know what grits are, and I can’t figure out if southern so-called “side dishes” are really just undercover desserts. My taste buds have certainly been enjoying all of this yumminess, but my stomach, not so much. Since I don’t typically deal with stomach discomfort, my recent tummy aches gave me the perfect opportunity to work with it. I used two different tools during these situations, the Healy [https://mariposaenergy.co/healy/] and the miHealth [https://mariposaenergy.co/mihealth-biofeedback-device/], and both seemed to really ease the pain almost immediately. Then came something even more significant. After several days of physical labor working on the house, I developed intense muscle tightness that progressed into shooting nerve pain in my hip. While I was in the first stage of muscle lock-up, I did a quick Healy [https://mariposaenergy.co/healy/] scan to find out which program I most needed. After doing hundreds of these scans, this was the first time the “Fitness” group came up as first priority. And when I looked to see which of the Fitness programs I needed most, “Muscle Harmony” was the first priority listed. Amazing! So I ran this program a couple of times, and there is no doubt it took the edge off. I can’t say the muscles completely relaxed and went back to normal, but that might also be because I never stopped working my tail off on the house. Without giving myself the recovery time I needed, I can’t expect the healing tools to work miracles. But then, due to my stubbornness with the continual physical labor, the muscles continued to lock up until finally I was in a situation of constant nerve pain radiating down through my right hip. When that nerve pain struck, I suddenly got very motivated to heal. This time, I picked up a biofeedback device called the miHealth [https://mariposaenergy.co/mihealth-biofeedback-device/] and ran some programs specifically focused on nerve pain. I almost still can’t believe the results. Within 15 minutes, the pain went from constant… to completely gone. It’s been over a week, and I’m very happy to report that it has not returned at all. All of these experiences this winter have made me realize how hard it is to focus and appreciate our belongings when we have an overwhelming amount of distractions. With fewer choices, we can become more focused. And when our energy is focused, our results become more powerful. Maybe most of our problems are because we have too much. Too many decisions.Too many distractions.Too many options pulling our energy in different directions. And all of that… works against the body’s natural ability to heal. Maybe having less isn’t about deprivation, but instead it’s about creating the space for your body to do what it’s designed to do. And this is exactly what I’m hoping to do at my new ZenDen [https://zenden-signup.getresponsesite.com/], an environment designed to experience different healing tools in a simple, guided, intentional way. I want to save you from the information overload and the collecting of too many unnecessary healing tools. Let me help you find what works for YOU. Because the truth is, there isn’t one single tool that is best for everyone. The key is finding the one that resonates with you. Pun intended. And when you do find your tool, and you stay consistent with it…that’s where real transformation begins. So I’ll leave you with this: Where in your life can you begin to remove instead of add? Because sometimes…less truly is more. episode What’s Really Controlling Your Health? artwork

What’s Really Controlling Your Health?

I spent most of my life chasing symptoms and trying to fix them. I’m sure you are, or were, in the same boat. I think most of the population is in a constant state of whack-a-mole when it comes to their health. And you know what, it never ends if you only focus on the symptoms. Welcome to Quantum Waves of Wellness. I’m your host, Dr. Paula Apro—Doctor of Natural Medicine, holistic health mentor, and your guide to unlocking the healing power within. Today, I want to try to explain why chasing symptoms is never going to work and what is really controlling your health. The biggest ah-ha moment and breakthrough you can have when it comes to your health is to stop looking at the body as a bunch of separate parts. The most terrifying thought is that this is exactly how doctors are trained, but we need to rise above this false concept. We have all been conditioned into this way of thinking. You have a heart issue, you go to a heart doctor. You have hormone problems, you go see an endocrinologist. You have kidney issues, you see a nephrologist. And if you have pain somewhere, you focus right where the pain is. After decades of doing these things, where are we? Are we all living in perfect health? I’m betting not. So maybe this system is not the best idea. And speaking of system, that is exactly what your body is - a system where everything is connected and works in harmony… not a set of isolated pieces. All of our cells are constantly communicating and constantly adjusting, trying to keep our bodies in balance. This is known as homeostasis. * If your temperature goes up, you sweat. * If your blood sugar drops, your body releases stored energy. * If you need more oxygen, your breathing changes. Every second of the day.Your heart is beating.Your lungs are working.Your brain is processing.Your body is repairing, regulating, and adapting. And you’re not thinking about any of it. It just happens all the time, automatically. So naturally, the question becomes- What actually is controlling all of this? Well, underneath everything is a very important feedback system of communication where information is sent around the body, to and from the brain, to all the cells. Your body is always sensing what’s going on, interpreting that information, and then responding accordingly. Which brings up another good question? What is coordinating all of this? What’s keeping everything running smoothly? The body has to be able to send and receive information clearly in order for it to function properly. We’ve been taught that this happens through the nervous system and through hormones. And that’s true. But that’s not the whole story. There’s another very important layer to this. A more subtle level of communication. This is what I refer to as the biofield. Now, you don’t have to get too caught up in the terminology, just think of it like this: The body isn’t just chemical. It’s informational. There are patterns, signals, and communication happening beyond what we can physically see. It’s that information that coordinates everything and is the most important driving force for your health. Ironically, it’s the invisible stuff that makes all the difference! But unfortunately, it’s still very much “invisible” to Western medicine. When that communication is clear, and the proper information flows effortlessly through the system, the body does a pretty great job of taking care of itself. But when static in the lines causes that communication to start to break down, that’s when things go bad. There are so many reasons this can happen. Stress and toxins are big factors, but unprocessed emotions are probably the biggest culprit in the breakdown of internal communication. And when that communication breakdown happens, the body starts to go into adaptation. It does what it needs to do to keep the heart beating, the lungs pumping, and all the other things that happen automatically. But many things start to shift and suffer. This is where chronic problems are born. This is when you start to get the general sense that something isn’t quite right, but you can’t really pinpoint it. Your body hasn’t given up. It’s still trying to correct itself during all of this. It just doesn’t have the clarity it needs to do the job well. The good news is that the body is incredibly resilient. When you give it the right conditions, it knows how to come back into balance. And that’s the focus of my work - giving the body the right conditions to heal. Instead of focusing on symptoms, I look at this invisible communication system to see how information is flowing and what may be stopping the flow. It’s so important to know where the static is and where the body is calling for the most attention. Many people may struggle with the same types of chronic problems, but everybody has a different hidden underlying reason for these issues. Once we identify the areas where information is not flowing properly, we can help support the system using frequencies. Not just generic frequencies, but the ones that your body is actually calling for. It knows best what it needs and when it needs it. When we work with the body at the level it actually operates on - energy and information, the communication improves, and everything else starts to shift in the right direction. If you’re curious about the work I do and want to learn more about frequencies as medicine, please visit www.quantum-dr.com or follow the link in the show notes.
