Ovarian Cancer: A Daughter's Tribute of Love and Loss

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2385852/fan_mail/new] In this heartfelt episode, we discuss the often-overlooked warning signs of ovarian cancer, including bloating, eating less/feeling full quickly, abnormal pelvic/back pain, and bladder trouble (BEAT). We also explore why ovarian cancer is so frequently diagnosed in later stages, the limitations of Pap smears, and the importance of understanding available screening and genetic testing options. Our guest, Deya, shares the powerful story of her mother, Sandra Alegria, who was diagnosed with stage III ovarian cancer in 2021 after experiencing a sudden loss of appetite and other worsening symptoms. After chemotherapy proved ineffective and surgery was not an option, Sandra responded remarkably well to hormone therapy, gaining nearly two additional years of quality life. Eventually, the cancer progressed, leading to serious complications and hospice care. Sandra passed away at age 68. Through Sandra's journey, this episode highlights the importance of listening to your body, advocating for yourself, asking questions, and seeking additional medical opinions when something doesn't feel right. Most importantly, it serves as a loving tribute to Sandra's strength, resilience, and legacy. Don't forget to share this podcast with a friend!  Episodes are released every two weeks on Wednesdays. The Late Bloomers Club: Life After 50

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2385852/fan_mail/new] In this episode of Red Lips Real Talk podcast, the hosts introduce the “Late Bloomers Club,” encouraging women not to let age or timelines dictate their dreams. They discuss anxieties about turning 40–50, shifting perspectives, physical and hormonal changes, and gaining clarity, boundaries, and a “less caring what others think” mindset. The conversation emphasizes prioritizing health, embracing evolving friendships and life transitions, and viewing midlife as a second act with time to reinvent, travel, start businesses, and pursue goals. They also address taboo topics around women’s sexuality, including orgasm statistics, communication in relationships, and recommend the film “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande.” Examples of late bloomers and reinvention include Kate Winslet, Vera Wang, Julia Child, Martha Stewart, Toni Morrison, Viola Davis, Arianna Huffington, and entrepreneurship data showing strong midlife participation. The Power and Pain of Unlearning: Educated by Tara Westover

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2385852/fan_mail/new] In this episode of Red Lips Real Talk, the hosts discuss Tara Westover's memoir Educated, with a heads-up that the conversation includes spoilers and heavy, potentially triggering content. They cover Tara's upbringing in rural Idaho under a fiercely anti-government father, where she and her siblings had no formal schooling, birth certificates, or medical care, and dangerous work and serious injuries were handled entirely at home. From that isolated, survivalist household, Tara taught herself enough to pass the ACT, enrolled at BYU, and eventually earned a PhD from Cambridge. The hosts also dig into the abuse Tara faced — particularly from her brother Sean — and the family's denial of it, before broadening into the memoir's larger themes: education as identity, the tension between loyalty and self-preservation, and the idea that you can love someone and still choose to leave them behind. Sober Curious: A Lifestyle Change or Cultural Shift?

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2385852/fan_mail/new] On the Red Lips Real Talk podcast, the hosts explore the “sober curious” movement as a mindful approach to rethinking alcohol without fully giving it up. They highlight alcohol-free social trends like mocktail festivals, dry bars, coffee parties, and yoga events.  Maritza shares her experience at Miami’s Mocktail Fest. The conversation touches on why Gen Z is drinking less, including health, finances, mental health, and lifestyle choices. They also question what’s replacing alcohol, noting concerns around cannabis use, vaping, and post-COVID isolation impacting social connection. The hosts discuss alcohol’s effects—like poor sleep, aging, and links to breast cancer—and sample Target’s Mingle mocktails. The episode closes with a key takeaway: it’s not about judgment, but about making intentional choices.
