Every week at Christ Lutheran Church we gather to learn and grow in faith together in the Red Room. Throughout the year we cover different topics, bring in guest teachers, and engage in learning that varies from Bible Study to book studies, big theological conversations, and even throw in some philosophy and spiritual practices along the way. This podcast shares sessions recorded in the Red Room and reflections from our Pastor and other teachers about the courses offered and topics covered.

Maybe We Don't Understand God: Process and Natural Theology

Throughout the month of February Pastor Drew Ingram and Dr. Matthew Daude led a class on The Problem of Evil. Matthew spoke from his experience as a professor of Philosophy of Religion about the classic theist definition of God and why that creates a problem that evil exists at all. In the final session, Matthew opens up the topic of perhaps God isn't omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent - at least not in the way we thought. Pastor Drew follows up with the idea that perhaps we have misunderstood power because God exercises God's power in a way totally other to how we might expect.

If God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent, then how and why is there any evil at all. Matthew also shared how Leibniz addresses that question. Pastor Drew chimes in on how a Christian understanding of God further complicates the problem and previews how the Bible seeks to address this very question.
