Description

https://youtu.be/N96QYT05bw4 For many people, especially in America – me included, the 1964 film Mary Poppins is the first time we really discovered who David Tomlinson was. He played Mr. Banks, the head of the family and whom a lot of Mary’s lessons were aimed at. I also remembered him from the 1966 original Herbie the Love Bug and of course the 1971 film Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Mr. Tomlinson was a far greater actor than those three roles. He was a fantastic stage actor and VERY well known in the UK for both his stage and film work. His son James shares fond memories of life with his father, family and Walt Disney. Walt saw his dad on stage in London, introduced himself and left, leaving Mr. Tomlinson wondering what the point was. Later he was cast as Mr. Banks and the whole Tomlinson family were able to experience Walt’s generosity. James even asked Mr. Disney about his magic plane. We talk about who in the family followed father’s footsteps into the business, about how his Autistic brother William is gifted in woodworking way beyond what James can do. As they say across the pond, we had just a lovely conversation. I hope you will enjoy Jame’s story as much as I did. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Luckier-Than-Most-Autobiography-Tomlinson/dp/1917382049 https://www.amazon.com/Disneys-British-Gentleman-Career-Tomlinson/dp/0750993308 #marypoppins #mrbanks #herbiethelovebug #autism #UK #Britain

episode Christopher Korman, son of Harvey Korman artwork

Christopher Korman, son of Harvey Korman

https://youtu.be/wQ5F_MfAEoU OMG! It’s Harvey Korman’s Son! I am still to this day a big fan of “Blazing Saddles” and “The Carol Burnett Show”. Mostly because of the talent and comedy timing of Harvey Korman. How fun would it be to spend 30 mins chatting with Mr. Korman about his amazing acting career? Well, how about 30 mins with his amazing son Christopher. Christopher wrote a book called “OMG! It’s Havey Korman’s Son!” which I find hilarious because he’s right up front about who his dad is. It reminds me that before I started this podcast I shot a TV pilot called “Vanna White’s Brother’s Talk Show” – look it up on YouTube – because like Christopher and his book, we were right up front about who’s talk show it was. Talking with Chritopher I learned he was lucky to be alive today because he was born with Hyaline membrane disease. HMD caused Christopher many health issues throughout his childhood, along with a severe learning disability. However his father was beyond supportive and encouraging. Always reminding Chrisopher to not let his disabilities define him. We discuss how his father helped him with a golf tournament and how over the years they both gave back to help kids with learning disabilities. A loyal subscriber to Relatively Famous found out I was going to interview Chris and wanted me to ask him about “the special award his father gave him” and about the “Star Wars Holiday Special”…Both are great stories! You’ll have to listen or watch to hear them. We also chat about Christmas’ in Lake Arrowhead, CA, what Dodger Dogs and pancakes mean to him still today and advice he has for his own son. episode Laurie Buffett McGuane, Sister of Jimmy Buffett artwork

Laurie Buffett McGuane, Sister of Jimmy Buffett

https://youtu.be/Zy8gIMgKDi8 I feel like this was a big win for Relatively Famous. To get Jimmy Buffett’s sister Laurie to say absolutely I’d love to be a guest after so many world renowned music relatives saying no put some gas back in my tank. In past episodes I have mentioned Laurie’s sister’s restaurant Lulu’s in North Myrtle Beach and had reached out to Lulu several times. Heck like Laurie and I talk about in our conversation I really didn’t know Jimmy had another sister. But while Googling Jimmy I found Laurie’s name and started digging around. Ok, I’m not always the brightest bulb in the pack but sometimes my light shines just enough to see something amazing. Hence, Laurie being our guest on this episode. What an amazing woman. Let’s start strong by talking about Laurie being a pancreatic cancer survivor. She was diagnosed the same day her brother Jimmy finished his treatment for Merkel cell carcinoma. The story she tells of that day and her time battling cancer is heavy and heartwarming. This is true sibling love and support. Laurie is a horse woman and a Montana rancher along with her famous husband, author Thomas McGuane. She is the middle sibling between Jimmy and Lulu. You’d think she was the quiet one being the middle child but she tells us that she was actually the gregarious one. Yet she always has to remind Lulu, with a smile and humor, to let people know, “Hey I’m out here too, it’s not just you and Jimmy.” We talk about life in Jimmy’s shadow, the weight you would  think the Buffet name has in Florida but isn’t always so, about her love of horses, her husband’s books and which is her favorite. What also talk ranch life vs beach life. Laurie knows she has an amazing life. She talks of favorite family moments and incredible experiences she has had because of her brother. All I can really say is “even if you’re not a Parrot head you’ll LOVE our conversation about Jimmy, life, horses and family.” We’ve included links to a couple of articles about her husband Thomas and Lulu’s restaurants, and Jimmy’s website since Laurie’s pretty laid back in the social media world. https://www.jimmybuffett.com/ [https://www.jimmybuffett.com/ ]https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2025/12/thomas-mcguane-writing/684617/ [https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2025/12/thomas-mcguane-writing/684617/] https://lulusfunfoodmusic.com/ [https://lulusfunfoodmusic.com/] #horses #ranchlife #pancreaticcancer #canersurvivor #parrothead #lulu #jimmybuffett #margaritaville #cheeseburgerinparadise

episode Peter Ackerman, Son of Elinor Donahue artwork

Peter Ackerman, Son of Elinor Donahue

https://youtu.be/_syzlkyvXr8 Peter has double Hollywood Royalty in my book. First, I became a fan of Peter’s mom, Elinor Donahue, from The Andy Griffith Show and then through reruns of Father Knows Best. Second, I love so many of the classic sitcoms that his father Harry Akerman produced. As Pater and I talked on the phone he said let me just send you some background info for quick references. So here are Peter’s notes… Background: Dad – Harry Ackerman was an Executive at CBS back in the day. He did a lot there, including help develop for production, “I Love Lucy,” and helped create an early draft of what became radio’s “Gunsmoke.” Later he became a producer – Executive Producer of “Bewitched,” “Hazel,” “Dennis the Menace,” “Gidget,” “The Flying Nun,” and more. Mom is actress Elinor Donahue. She performed in vaudeville and on radio at a young age, got a contract at MGM where she was in some movies, and later became known to households as “Betty (nicknamed ‘Princess’)” in “Father Knows Best.” After that series, she went onto “The Andy Griffith Show” for a season but left it to marry my dad and begin a family. I was the first of their three boys together. Me – I got the acting bug, and more than my brothers, I fell in love with the business. I went whenever I could to a set where she (or my dad’s shows) were filming. For while I became an actor (nothing of note), and later got into the production side of the business, spending five years working freelance, mostly as a production assistant, on a lot of tv commercials and a lot of music videos, where I worked with many famous people (and once even stood in for Stephen Tyler of Aerosmith), with the rest of the band, during a song run through on a music video. Later worked in television, on shows and in the main tv department at Warner Bros, where I served as an office assistant. My final job was “Assistant to the Line Producer on “Friends” for two early seasons. Married and with children I felt another calling which years later had me serving as an Episcopal Priest, which is what I do now, choosing to live and work on the east coast. It was fun to hear stories of his life as a kid on so many of his parents’ tv sets. He even wrote a book “Mom, Dad, Me and Classic TV”. But he had to use his middle initial because there is another Peter Ackerman out there in the biz. So if you’re looking for Peter’s book on the internet, Google Peter K. episode Lilly Hiatt, Daughter of John Hiatt artwork

Lilly Hiatt, Daughter of John Hiatt

https://youtu.be/LlG6RZOSKyc On Jan 25, 2007 at Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte, NC my wife had the opportunity to see Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Joe Ely and Guy Clark perform. It was an amazing evening of music from four awesome singer / songwriters. I start this introduction of this episode with that tidbit of information, because our guest is Lilly Hiatt, daughter of John Hiatt. I have been a fan of her father John Hiatt’s music since the mid 80s and seeing him at that show was a highlight of concert experiences for me. Lilly is a touring musician, singer / songwriter who I had tried to book as a guest back in 2025, but could never make it work out. When I saw Lilly would be playing at Sam’s Burger Joint in San Antonio in Feb of 2026, I reached back out to her manager suggesting an in-studio episode since Lilly would be in town. Needless to say I was thrilled when she said yes! And yes I did actually purchase tickets for the show that night. Lilly was grateful and had said she would have happily put my name on the list. I thought that was super nice of her, but we wanted to support her tour. Another note about that night, I have had a lot of musicians on the podcast and I remember Langdon and Wil Reid telling our listeners that merchandise sales is bread & butter to touring musicians, so I also bought a signed vinyl LP from Lilly. Remember folks buy the merch from the smaller acts on the road. Lilly chats about touring, growing up in Tennessee, her mom Nancy, sobriety, tattoos, songwriting and Elvis. Elvis came to Lilly during Covid and has been a loving member of Lilly’s family ever since that day he arrived. Okay, Elvis is her dog and the story of how she got Elvis is hoot. Lilly, thank you for coming to Nelco Comics for an awesome conversation! Be safe on the road, and keep the songs alive. https://www.lillyhiatt.com/ [https://www.lillyhiatt.com/ ]https://www.facebook.com/LillyHiatt [https://www.facebook.com/LillyHiatt ]https://www.instagram.com/lillyahiatt/ [https://www.instagram.com/lillyahiatt/]
