Colorado had a chance to require large employers to either provide affordable healthcare or contribute toward the Medicaid costs created when their employees need public assistance. Ty Winter voted against that bill. This isn’t just about healthcare. It’s about whether taxpayers should continue subsidizing profitable corporations while working families struggle to get ahead. One of the things I believe elected officials should do is educate voters, not just repeat consultant-tested talking points. A Facebook comment claiming that only “illegals” lost Medicaid benefits gave me an opportunity to explain something many Americans don’t know: millions of retirees rely on Medicaid to help pay their Medicare Part B premiums. When that assistance disappears, the consequences are very real. This piece isn’t about scoring political points. It’s about making sure we’re arguing from the same set of facts.
