About Roaming Voices Podcast: Remarkable stories told by people who live nomadically.

Roaming Voices shares remarkable stories from people who have lived nomadic lives. Hosted by Josie Jeffery, who grew up living in a bus with her parents and four siblings, the podcast explores honest conversations about life on the road. Travelling across the UK and Europe, Josie experienced communes, busking, circuses and off-grid living. Through raw and real conversations, Roaming Voices celebrates traveller culture and creates an archive of voices, memories and experiences from communities whose stories are rarely recorded but form an important part of our shared cultural history.

Debs Wrekon: Fire, Scrap and Sculpture

Welcome to Roaming voices, a podcast having conversations with people who live in nomadic ways. This is episode 4, and today we hear from Debs Wrekon, a sculptress and member of the Mutoid Waste Company, an anarchistic arts collective founded in the 80's that makes post-apocalyptic pieces out of scrap. Deb's work ranges from large installations like giant love hearts made out of the back of two caravans welded together, to smaller pieces made from household items like spoons and nut crackers, and are a bit of a feminist statement, putting a new spin on things which may be traditionally associated with being a housewife. Her work features at festivals all over the world, including Japan and Italy and of course the UK festivals like Glastonbury, Shindig and Boomtown. Mary Guyver: You Can’t Take the Show Out of the Girl

Welcome to Roaming Voices, conversations with people who live in nomadic ways. I am having a conversation with Mary Guyver, a New Traveller, performer and Bi-Lingual stage Manager.  Just a bit of a warning, there may be swearing, sensitive issues and terminologies discussed.  This is my second episode and was recorded across continents and not without its technical issues! It turns out that the internet in Brittany, France, is not great on a Thursday night when - in Mary 's words ‘all the gamers are on’   Hear about Mary's Badass bus life, dealing with breakdowns and learning mechanics, being a self -sufficient single mum to her daughter Circe, her life as a performer, stage manager and activist, ditching the UK and moving to France.  Mary shows us that you can be autodidact (a self-taught person) turning your hand to anything if you put your mind to it, to not be so suspicious of strangers and to be mindful of the angels and the arseholes! After about 40 mins of playing with the tech, Mary and I worked out a way of still having a conversation by ditching the computer and going for a video chat on our phones. I balanced my personal phone in an empty cup of tea on my desk and balanced my work phone on another cup and pressed record! The sound is a bit sketchy and there was a weird echo and delay which meant I had to limit my own speaking to reduce the echo, but it worked out pretty good and we laughed at how bodge jobbing is in our blood! Kate Verney: “Being a Girl Clown Was Hard.” Recorded at Glastonbury Festival 2025.

Welcome to Roaming Voices, conversations with people who live in nomadic ways. This is my first episode and was recorded at Glastonbury Festival 2025, in my van, and under the Ash tree opposite the Pyramid stage, on the Wednesday before the festival started.  I am having a conversation with Kate Verney, hear about her extraordinary life on the road and her mission to be a female clown and mime artist - which was rare back then-  her life living in a truck, travelling with troupes and travelling solo, busking for breakfast and how being neuro divergent was her super power as a performer. Kate reminds us to look hard for the magic. Kate has worked as a body harmony teacher and practitioner for over 25 years, her hands on body harmony work is intuitive and holistic, working with people and the stories they hold in their bodies, she is happy and in love and living in South Wales by the sea.
