Simple Discipleship - UNFILTERED
“Receiving Christ” is one of the most repeated phrases in church culture and it might be one of the most misunderstood. We slow down in John 1:12-18 and ask a direct question: what does it actually mean to receive Jesus in a biblical sense, not just as a moment of emotion or a public gesture? From Jesus’ first message of “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” to the apostles’ response in Acts, we connect receiving Christ to repentance, surrender, baptism, and a life that truly changes direction. We also talk about why the name of Jesus is central, not as a spiritual shortcut, but as covenant language that shows up everywhere the early church preaches, prays, and ministers. You’ll hear how passages like Acts 2, Acts 3, and Acts 4 frame salvation, healing, and authority around faith in his name, and why obedience matters if we claim we love him. Then we move into John 3 and the new birth, unpacking what it means to be born of water and of Spirit and why the Holy Ghost is God’s gift rather than something we can force. Finally, we sit with the weight of the incarnation: the Word made flesh, tabernacling among us, and the stunning truth that in Christ the fullness of God is revealed. The conversation lands on a line that reframes the cross and God’s love: “God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself.” If you’ve ever wondered whether God is distant from suffering, this teaching offers a different lens and a deeper hope.
