Relating to God primarily as the Almighty Provider is decidedly one-dimensional, and misses out on experiencing the real treasure.  QUESTIONS FOR THE ROAD 1. In what ways have you placed yourself at the center of the “Consumer Cosmos”? What are the good things you have turned into the greater things, above God as your treasure? 2. Reflect on God as your treasure. How has the revelation of God being the “only thing of value” in this life changed you? 3. Write out how you have experienced God as your treasure in your life. God’s faithfulness, presence, provision, healing, etc…

Quid Pro Quo

Our God is prodigal in love for us. That doesn’t make you a slave; it makes you a son.  QUESTIONS FOR THE ROAD 1. In the parable of the lost sons (Luke 15), do you identify more with the younger son or the older? What truths about yourself do you see in each character? 2. In what ways have you lived more “entitled” to God’s spiritual blessings, rather than motivated “with God” to his commission (Matthew 28:19-20). 3. What can you do differently to keep God’s recklessly, extravagant love for you at the forefront of your thoughts and actions?

Posturing our lives with an emphasis on appeasing God through behaviors is heavy. But Jesus says His burden is easy and light. QUESTIONS FOR THE ROAD Do you consider yourself a rule-follower or a rule-breaker? How does this affect the way you relate with God? What does it look like for you practically to live in relationship with God that views God’s Grace as an unmerited gift, that you don’t have to strive to earn? As a daily pursuit of a closer relationship with God, in what ways can you Draw Near to God?
