Trekking the Industry Transformation Map

On this episode of START, we sit down with the architects behind 3 different projects that all utilised Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) practices in their creation, relating them to BCA’s refreshed BE Industry Transformation Map (ITM) pillars of:  1.       Integrated Planning and  2.       Advanced Manufacturing and Assembly (AMA) methodology.  We delve into how DPA implemented such novel processes, the resultant benefits and challenges, and what this shift means for the larger Built Environment sector.  Offering us their insights into how BIM and DfMA methodologies were incorporated into their respective projects are:  * DPA senior associate director Seetoh Khan Pang, key design team member of the The Woodleigh Residences and The Woodleigh Mall;  * Associate director Ng Ching Hsiung, design team member for the award-winning HomeTeamNS Khatib Clubhouse;  * senior associate director Chin Li Nah and  * associate Frederick Low, both design team members for Bukit Canberra.  The quartet enlightens us on: * the possibilities that BIM and DfMA are able to provide to the Built Environment, such as acting as a bulwark against exigent uncertainties and manpower issues that were highlighted during the COVID crisis,  * how the ITM will help improve sustainable developments in the industry, and  * the greater significance of DPA’s recent attainment of ISO 19650 certification to both clients and the wider industry.  This podcast promises to provide an accessible conversation to listeners curious about how technology is being deftly utilised by architects to improve the Built Environment industry’s workflow and how it helps to address the matter of sustainability. Innovating Our Design Practice

This episode of START comes at a timely juncture as many are questioning how the fourth industrial revolution should be navigated and the potential of artificial intelligence (AI).  We sit down with the knowledge experts that comprise DP Architect’s (DPA) Smart Sustainability Unit (SSU) to discuss about technology and its applications across the Built Environment (BE); specifically delving into its untapped capacity to fulfil the many concerns of the built environment and challenges faced by the professionals across the entire BE cycle. This ranges from bolstering the fight against climate change by harnessing artificial intelligence and data at design concept stage and transforming the design environment for BE professions through the integration of advance digital technology to enhancing resource optimisation, and improving liveability and experience of space.  The domain knowledge experts convened together for this episode are:  * DPA director and Head of the SSU, Chan Hui Min  * DP Sustainable Design (DPSD) director Yong Siew Onn,  *  DPSD senior ESD Analyst Yehezkiel Williardy and  * architectural associate at DPA, Bob Lee.  The quartet shares insights on: * What exactly does ‘Smart” mean in the context of the Built Environment, and how can it be intertwined together with sustainability concerns * How harnessing the power of digital technologies and artificial intelligence can potentially elevate design and delivery capabilities of BE professionals across the Real Estate cycle  * What is DPA’s Smart Sustainability Unit driving towards and how its three products – NimbleSim Plus, Digital Twin Explorer and Spaceworx – will work towards effecting more sustainable design decisions, greater design efficacy and efficiency, resource optimisation and end-user wellbeing.  This podcast explores how technology can be utilised to improve sustainability initiatives in meaningful and material ways, to create productive outcomes for all involved stakeholders. It will provoke audience members into re-examining the potential of applying technology to industry, through understanding how Built Environment professionals can utilise their domain knowledge and marry it with up-and-coming technologies to create a multiplier effect that generates benefits for everyone.
