The Beginning of Wisdom

We have more information than any generation in history — and we’re not always sure what to do with it. This morning we open a new series in Proverbs with the one question most of us have never been taught to ask: not “is this wrong?” but “is this wise?” It changes everything.

The Other Cheek

Jesus ends his Sermon on the Mount with its most demanding claim: love your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you. Be perfect as your Father is perfect. But what does that actually mean — for the person you've quietly written off, the relationship that's been cold for years, the face that comes to mind when you hear the word enemy? This Mother's Day, we close our You've Heard It Said series with the hardest and most hopeful word Jesus ever spoke. Not a call to be a doormat — a call to be complete.

Same Person in Every Room

We're in week four of "You've Heard It Said" — a series on the Sermon on the Mount antitheses, where Jesus repeatedly says: you've heard it said one thing, but I'm telling you something deeper. Today's passage is Matthew 5:33–37. The ancient world had a formalized tier system for oaths — a way of signaling which promises were binding and which were flexible. Jesus doesn't improve the system. He removes the need for it entirely.

More than a Certificate

We’re in week three of You’ve Heard It Said, a series exploring the hardest teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. Today’s text is Matthew 5:31–32 — two verses on divorce that have been quoted in churches for centuries, often wielded as a weapon against the very people Jesus sought to protect. We’re doing the background work today: what Malachi actually said and to whom, what Deuteronomy was doing when it regulated divorce, and what Jesus was really after when he spoke.
