Interview - NYC band - Punchlove - they just spoke to us from Paris!

Bonus podcast alert!   The amazing band Punchlove (shoegaze/ experimental/ lots of fun noise!) just spoke to us whilst they are on tour in Paris! We recorded the zoom call at 4PM today! They hit the UK tomorrow (!) and we made this special podcast with them about their experience as an artist touring the UK & EU I   think you're gonna enjoy this one!   (More info about them & tour dates below) ---   More info   https://punchlove.net [https://punchlove.net]   A Brooklyn-based band dedicated to pushing the envelope of experimental sonic practices. For the five multi-instrumentalists and audio engineers, moving into a maze of a house in Brooklyn together was the transition that created the album they had been writing their whole lives.   Melding DIY recording and experimental sonic visions with studio quality, their debut album,  “Channels," is a layered bed of adventurous, pain-pop songs that coalesce around a digitally-stimulated, emotionally-serrated brand of modern shoegaze. "Channels" is out now everywhere on Kanine Records.

Champion Trees tell us about their new record, gigs, and song writing process

Don't miss Champion Trees upcoming gig!   10 Jun 2026, 19:00 – 23:00 The Old Church, Stoke Newington Church St, London N16 9ES, UK   Tickets: https://www.realsounds.uk/event-details/313 [https://www.realsounds.uk/event-details/313]   Thank you to our students Alfie & Tyler G for helping prepare and host this podcast.   More about the artist Champion Trees - formed when cousins Francis Christie (vocal, guitar) and Lex Pienaar (bass) got together with drummer Langa Dubazana at the University of Cape Town.   Taking notes from 90s luminaries Belle & Sebastian and Pavement, they set out to have fun with music and language, building a following on the back of their well-received 2022 debut album NOW 3000. The lush arrangements of newly released second album A Duck’s Water Off My Back are a marked departure from the lean production of the band’s early material, thanks in part to the addition of new members James Bickford-Smith (violin, synthesizers), Michael Burke (saxophone), and Michelle Hromin (clarinet), whose contributions have brought new textural depth to the music.   A Duck’s Water Off My Back has greatly expanded the band's following, particularly after it received critical acclaim from Outside Noise, who maintain that it features "some of the most beautiful poetry we've heard in independent music all year".
