Stop Over-Explaining: The CEO Email Formula Every Powerful Woman Needs

Welcome back to Superheroes in Heels, the show where powerful women defy expectations, rise to leadership, and claim their authority—one bold move at a time. I’m Kimberley Borgens, your host and fellow trailblazer, here to guide you through the realities of building success in a world where clarity is power. In today’s episode, we’ll be confronting a subtle yet deeply impactful force at play in women’s professional lives: email habits that undermine your standing and sap your strength. If you’ve ever caught yourself over-explaining a decision, apologizing for asserting a boundary, or tiptoeing through your emails so as not to ruffle feathers, this conversation is for you. These “softening” habits may feel like polite professionalism, but they’re actually costing women respect, money, and opportunities every single day. And the workplace—and your business—aren’t served when you’re busy cushioning and clarifying instead of leading with decisive, confident communication. Today, we’re breaking down three of the most common money-losing email habits—over-explaining, pre-apologizing, and emotional cushioning. We’ll unpack how women have been conditioned to communicate this way, and why it’s time to stop playing small and step up as the decisive, respected leaders you are meant to be. You’ll hear real examples of how these habits play out and why clarity, not comfort, should guide your communication if you want to actually move your team and clients forward. Stay tuned as I introduce my CEO email formula, designed specifically to help you reclaim your authority and communicate with power. We’ll talk actionable strategies like stating your needs directly, attaching clear timelines, and setting expectations for decisions—all while keeping that human touch. I’ll also share stories from my own business journey and show you how transforming your emails can quickly shift the way people respond to you. This episode isn’t just about email—it’s about rewriting your professional story and reclaiming your power in every interaction. If you’re ready to stop shrinking and start communicating like the superhero in heels you truly are, you won’t want to miss today’s practical, powerful, and perspective-shifting conversation. So get ready—clarity and confidence are just an email away! Micro Bravery: Small Acts That Build Big Confidence for Women in Business

Welcome back to another inspiring episode of Superheroes in Heels! I’m Kimberley Borgens, your host, fellow trailblazer, and unapologetic advocate for women who are ready to rise, lead, and absolutely own the room. With over 30 years of experience building success in a male-dominated industry, I know firsthand that real confidence isn’t something you’re magically born with—it’s something you build little by little, moment by moment. And today, I’m here to help you do exactly that. This episode is all about “micro bravery”—those small, sometimes uncomfortable actions we choose to take consistently, even when fear or self-doubt tries to keep us stuck. I’m sharing how genuine, lasting confidence never comes before you take action; it follows after you’ve taken that scary step and proven to yourself that you can survive the discomfort, the rejection, the raised prices, the no’s, and the moments you choose courage over hiding. You’re going to hear why waiting to feel confident before you act is a trap that holds too many powerful women on an endless plateau. Instead, I’ll show you how every tiny, brave decision can train your brain and nervous system to trust yourself—to know deep down that you can handle hard things, be seen, speak up, lead, and recover when things don’t quite go perfectly. I’ll be sharing real-life examples—from speaking up first in a meeting, raising your prices for one new client, finally posting that video, correcting someone respectfully, ending toxic partnerships, or just saying no without a five-paragraph apology. Plus, I’ll teach you practical systems you can put into action, like creating your own “evidence folder” of your wins, using the five-second rule to disrupt hesitation, and challenging those limiting stories you tell yourself about who you are. You’ll also hear one of my own recent experiences where I pushed past my comfort zone and proved to myself just how much I’m capable of. My hope is that by the end of this episode, you’ll see that confidence is available to every woman—one small act of micro bravery at a time. So, if you’re ready to step into your own set of power heels, challenge your comfort zone, and start building the confidence you truly deserve, you’re in the right place. Let’s unleash your inner superhero together—because powerful women aren’t born, they’re built, moment by moment, choice by choice. Are you ready? Let’s dive in! Stop Playing Small: How Women Can Defeat Learned Helplessness and Own Their Power

Welcome to another empowering episode of Superheroes in Heels! I’m Kimberley Borgens, and today I’m diving deep into one of the most insidious issues that steals confidence from brilliant, capable women every single day—learned helplessness. As someone who has spent over 30 years paving my own path and finding success in male-dominated industries, I’ve seen firsthand how silently and powerfully this conditioning operates beneath the surface. In this episode, I want to shine a spotlight on the subtle ways women—often high achievers and go-getters—can be trapped into believing they’re stuck, unable to change their outcomes, or unworthy of speaking up and taking charge. We’ll bust the myth that learned helplessness only affects people who “look” helpless, and I’ll share real-life examples of how this mindset quietly creeps into our businesses, our careers, our relationships, and our everyday decisions. I’ll walk you through the specific ways learned helplessness shows up in professional language and behavior, from shrinking back in meetings to undercharging for your expertise, tolerating disrespectful partnerships, and talking yourself out of bold moves. You’ll hear why so many of us end up prioritizing comfort over leadership and how that comfort zone can become a cage—no matter how cozy it may appear. But most importantly, I’m giving you tools to break out. I’ll share actionable strategies to help you collect evidence of your capability, stop waiting for permission, make decisions with confidence, shift your self-talk, and put yourself in rooms that stretch your growth. Together, we’ll challenge the status quo and remind ourselves—and each other—that we were not born to play small. If you’ve ever caught yourself hesitating, doubting, or waiting for someone else to notice your potential, this episode is your wake-up call. Let’s identify those places where we unconsciously accept helplessness, reclaim our power, and become the bold, decisive leaders we were meant to be. Get ready to unleash your inner superhero—because your confidence, your business, and your future depend on it. Stop Settling: Raising Your Standards in Business and Life

Welcome back to Superheroes in Heels! I’m Kimberley Borgens, your host, and today I want to tackle a topic that hits close to home—not just for me, but for so many strong, capable women out there carving out their place in business and in life. Have you ever noticed how easy it is to be subtly talked out of what you really want? Maybe it’s a little suggestion that what you’re aiming for is “too much,” or a nudge that you should just settle for something “good enough”—whether that’s a career move, a client, or even something as simple as your next car. In this episode, I open up about a recent experience: my beloved convertible was totaled in a car accident, and as I started searching for a replacement, everyone around me seemed to have an opinion. Suggestions rolled in about buying something smaller, or less flashy, or more practical—something that didn’t quite match my standards, my needs, or my desires. I even found myself rationalizing a new choice to accommodate others, putting their comfort ahead of my own happiness. It took a conversation with my own son to realize I was on the verge of settling for less than I deserved. This got me thinking about all the places we as women, and especially as leaders, lower our standards for the sake of convenience, harmony, or just to avoid seeming “too much.” It happens in business when we accept clients who drain us or undervalue us, partner with vendors who don’t deliver, or make excuses for team members who won’t rise to the occasion. Every time we settle, we chip away at our own confidence and lower our baseline for what we believe we deserve. Today, I’m sharing bold, actionable advice about why it’s so important to hold the line when it comes to your standards—and how being flexible or accommodating often comes at a much higher cost than we realize. We’ll talk about the power of command presence, why it’s essential not to shrink or over-explain when you’re offered something that doesn’t meet your requirements, and practical ways to raise your standards in both your personal and professional life. If you’re ready to stop negotiating against yourself, to honor your own needs, and to step into the confident leadership you’re meant for, this episode is for you. Let’s challenge the status quo, stop settling for less, and lift each other up to the standards we truly deserve. Are you ready to rise, lead, and own the room? Let’s jump in! episode Stop Winging It: Four Steps to Mentally Prepare for Success artwork

Stop Winging It: Four Steps to Mentally Prepare for Success

Welcome back to Superheroes in Heels, the podcast where powerful women rise, lead, and own the room. I’m Kimberley Borgens, and I’ve spent over 30 years building a successful career in a male-dominated industry. Throughout my journey, I’ve learned that true confidence and authority aren’t achieved by simply hoping everything will work out or by winging it when big moments arrive. Today, I want to have a bold conversation about why preparation—specifically mental rehearsal—is the real secret weapon for women stepping into higher levels of leadership, business, and influence. In this episode, I dive into the game-changing power of mental rehearsal. I’ll share the science behind why visualizing your success is just as powerful as practicing in real life, drawing on fascinating studies and practical examples from both sports and entrepreneurship. I’ll talk about the ways high-level performers prepare themselves mentally, walking you through how they rehearse conversations, navigate objections, and own the room in their minds long before they ever step through the door. You’ll hear my own stories—including times when I had to prepare for challenging conversations or situations as both a business leader and a mom—and I’ll give you a proven four-step framework for using mental rehearsal to build your confidence and command presence. We’re talking about more than just picturing a win; this is about getting strategic, facing the hard parts, and training your brain to see success as something familiar and attainable. By the end of this episode, you’ll understand why hoping you’ll rise to the occasion isn’t enough—and you’ll have the tools you need to actually prepare for those big moments. Whether you’re leading a meeting, negotiating with a client, or stepping into a brand new space, you’re not just meant to be in the room—you’re meant to lead it. So grab your superhero heels, step into your mental rehearsal, and get ready to unleash your inner trailblazer. Let’s break barriers, embrace our authority, and show the world just how powerful women can be when we prepare to own every space we enter!
