Description

It's Group Therapy Thursday!  Dear Ted and Amy, I have a friend of over 40 years - we are almost 60 now. She has a drinking problem. When she's drinking, she makes bad choices and does really shady stuff. One of the last things she did to me, I just can't get over. She recorded a private conversation that we had about a mutual friend. She then anonymously sent the recording to the person. That person immediately contacted me and said the number was traced back to this mutual friend. I confronted her and of course, she denied doing it. When she is caught doing something “shady” she blames being drunk and just thinks her longtime friends will accept her as she is. At almost 60, it isn’t cute and you can’t blame that you were drunk when you did it. I’ve confronted her about her drinking, offered help and to do healthy things with her. But at this point, I feel like I just need to distance myself and I question if we were ever friends at all. What are the rules about longtime friends who should love you no matter what, but they continue to let you down?
