Description

True church membership is built on one foundation: love. Not ordinary love, but the kind Jesus modeled, selfless, sacrificial, and rooted in His example. Jesus raised the standard beyond the Golden Rule, calling us to love others not as we want to be loved, but as He has loved us. God has equipped us for this by giving us Jesus as the perfect example and the Holy Spirit as the power source. Practically, this means helping those who are hurting, honoring those in authority, and being patient with difficult people. Love is not a limited resource. The more we give it away, the more we find we have.

Practicing Membership: The Platinum Rule, Part 2

Loving others the way Jesus loves us is not simply a matter of trying harder. It begins with understanding where that kind of love actually comes from. Jesus describes His own heart as gentle and humble, and He invites the weary and burdened to come to Him before they have it all together. Taking His yoke means walking alongside Him in a lifelong process of discipleship, not just modifying outward behavior. Going through the motions without inward transformation can quietly produce cynicism, resentment, and spiritual numbness over time. The example of Paul shows what is possible when someone truly encounters Jesus and allows that relationship to reshape them from the inside out. Real love for others flows from a heart that has been changed by closeness to Christ, not from willpower or performance.

Finding Jesus in Mark: He Didn't Skip Any Pages

Jesus refused a pain-numbing drink before His crucifixion because He chose to endure the cross fully, without anything softening its weight. The physical suffering was brutal: scourging, a crown of thorns, nails driven through His wrists, and hours of agonizing effort just to breathe. Beyond the physical pain, He bore the spiritual weight of the sins of all humanity. Because He skipped nothing, the cross was transformed from a symbol of death into a symbol of life, and we can be transformed from sinners into saints. Following Jesus means we cannot skip the hard pages either. We are called to die to ourselves daily, deny our flesh, and fully obey Him. Every blessing we enjoy as children of God is connected to what He endured. And for all who are in Christ, God will not skip any pages when He looks in the book of life and finds their name.
