About The Australian Revolutionist

Josh Toombs discusses progressive and new ideas that challenge the current Australian political landscape. The Australian Revolutionist acts as a springboard for information in the areas of politics, society and culture where it is hoped that you may walk away with a new perspective on an issue. It won't be limited to Australia but will draw in people and ideas from over the globe to analyse intersectional approaches to advocate for true change.

Is there a way to end unemployment? A Job Guarantee

This episode James and I discuss the prospects of a federal Jobs Guarantee. You might have heard of the concept in the news lately and we sat down to discuss what it is, what jobs would it bring, if it's similar to the 'work for the dole' schemes and how much it might cost. I will note that when talking about the U.S. I miss quoted the unofficial unemployment rate which is at 18.1 or slightly higher according to the hidden unemployment figures. I also noted that the U.S. has 100,000 deaths from Coronavirus which I meant to phrase as a figure the country was heading towards but not the actual amount. When you read lots of numbers they do get jumbled but with that aside we think you'll find this interesting and hope you take something away from the episode.

Is renewable energy worth it? Planet of the Humans discussion

A surprise movie dropped this week produced by documentary filmmaker Michael Moore called Planet of the Humans which brought a different perspective and critique to the environmental movement and of renewable energy. It posed some interesting questions and got James and I thinking about what we can takeaway from the film and what should be disregarded. I hope you find this discussion open and useful as a lot of the questions brought up by this movie are going to be important in addressing how we move towards a green planet. If you enjoyed the episode please leave a review on Apple Podcasts it would be muchly appreciated.  **** Music Credit: Escape by HaTom & Rofeu https://fanlink.to/HaTom https://soundcloud.com/ruslan-delion/tracks Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 Free Download / Stream: https://bit.ly/hatom-and-rofeu-escape

episode JobKeeper, Super, Loans and Evictions: Where the government has fallen short artwork

JobKeeper, Super, Loans and Evictions: Where the government has fallen short

This episode is devoted to covering some of the shortcomings of the Government's economic and social policies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. While I reflect on how lucky it is to live in Australia, I share some of my critiques on the JobKeeper subsidy, superannuation changes, loans on offer and the supposed promise to ban evictions across the country. I hope you listen all the way through as I know the topic may seem unpopular during this time but I promise the discussion might help to stimulate a new perspective and remind you that we can and should be fighting for everyone not just those who have already been looked after. I appreciate your ongoing support and your own opinion and perspective you bring to the conversation. If you enjoyed the episode I would really appreciate you leaving a review on Apple Podcasts as it helps to reach new people.

episode George Pell goes free, survivors sentenced to anguish artwork

George Pell goes free, survivors sentenced to anguish

This week brought the decision by the High Court of Australia to let George Pell go free after being convicted in 2018 unanimously of five child sex offences. James Hales joins the conversation with Josh about what this decision means for survivors and what could be done in the future to prevent the Catholic Church's abuse of the system. The nature of sexual abuse crimes more broadly is discussed and a few ideas around what could be done to help victims of these crimes and prevent them from occurring in the future are suggested.  **** Music Credit: Escape by HaTom & Rofeu https://fanlink.to/HaTom https://soundcloud.com/ruslan-delion/tracks Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 Free Download / Stream: https://bit.ly/hatom-and-rofeu-escape
