Episode 25: School Resource Officer Dr. Beth J. Sanborn
ABOUT YOUR GUEST: Dr. Beth J. Sanborn joined the Lower Gwynedd Police force in 1997. Since then, she has served as a Field Training Officer, Officer in Charge (OIC), and currently serves as a School Resource Officer assigned to the Wissahickon School District. Since 2015, she assumed responsibility for all juvenile cases, earning her the rank of Juvenile Detective. Beth earned her Doctoral Degree in Public Administration from West Chester University in 2019. Her Doctoral dissertation is entitled “School Resource Officers as Mentor/Counselors, Including Levels of Intervention.” She actively volunteers with the Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth and Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center. Beth sits on the executive board for PASRO, the Pennsylvania Association of School Resource Officers, is an instructor for NASRO, the National Association of School Resource Officers and is a Director & Policy Fellow for the International Center for Law Enforcement Studies. Dr. Sanborn has learned how to spot concerning indicators of poor lifestyle choices made by teens who may be in crisis. From alcohol abuse, drug use, experimentation, and mental health concerns, many of the signs are hidden right in front of us. Our experiences with teens afford us ‘a piece of a puzzle’ as to teen’s true identity; and when all of the invested stakeholders combine their puzzle pieces, only then does a complete picture emerge. Hidden, High, & Hammered empowers parents, teachers, and social services providers to identify a teen who may be in crisis so that we can intervene before the crisis is reached. This presentation will showcase stash items meant to hide, deceive, and conceal (Hidden); vapes, CBD, THC and paraphernalia (High); alcohol infused items and alcoholic items with deceptive packaging to attract teens (Hammered). She is available to teach HHH to parents and speak at your next event. Visit www.bethjsanborn.com for more information.
