Regulate to Reconnect: Nervous System Wisdom for Parents, Teachers & Humans with Alena Winter

In the first episode of season 2, I’m joined by naturopath and nutritionist Alena Winter, whose work centres on nervous system regulation and the holistic foundations of health. Together, we explore how the nervous system shapes the way we think, communicate, and connect, especially when life feels chaotic or overwhelming. We unpack what dysregulation really means, how it shows up in everyday reactions, and why awareness and co-regulation are so essential, particularly for parents, caregivers, and educators. We also talk about emotional safety, what to do when it wasn’t modelled growing up, and how small, realistic shifts can help your body move out of survival mode and back into connection. If you’ve ever felt constantly “on,” reactive, or exhausted from holding it together, this conversation offers grounded insights, gentle tools, and a reminder that calm is not a personality trait. It’s a skill your nervous system can relearn. This episode is especially supportive for parents, caregivers, and educators who hold space for others while learning to hold themselves. You can follow Alena on Instagram @alenawinternaturalhealth where you will find all of her links in her bio - https://www.instagram.com/alenawinternaturalhealth/ You can also connect with Sarah on Instagram @consciousearlylearning for nervous-system-safe support for parents and educators, especially after a long day of holding everyone else and trying to find your way back to yourself. https://www.instagram.com/consciousearlylearning

episode Welcome to Season #2 of The Conscious Early Learning Podcast artwork

Welcome to Season #2 of The Conscious Early Learning Podcast

Season Two of the Conscious Early Learning Podcast is for parents and early childhood educators who are holding a lot, often without a place to put it down. For the parent standing in the kitchen at the end of the day, heart still racing long after the kids are asleep. For the teacher who freezes mid-centre meltdown, smiling on the outside while her nervous system is overwhelmed and making her stomach summersault. For the adults shaping young lives while quietly questioning who they are allowed to be inside those roles. This season goes beyond nervous system regulation as a set of tools. We explore how stress and safety live in the body and how they shape identity, boundaries, voice, and worth, especially for those who are expected to stay calm, attuned, and emotionally available no matter what’s happening inside. Through a blend of neuroscience, somatic awareness, and chakra-informed identity work, these conversations invite you to notice where stress lands, who you become under pressure, and how calm can be rebuilt from the inside out. Not by fixing yourself. Not by performing regulation. But by creating enough internal safety for your system to soften, reorganise, and return. Season Two brings together grounded experts and lived experience to support parents and educators in moving from survival to presence, from coping to connection, and from role-based identity to embodied self-trust. This is nervous system work that honours both science and soul, so calm doesn’t just become something you practice, but something you live, even in the middle of real life. You don’t need to become someone new. You need to come home to yourself.

Healing, Humour & Living Consciously with Nina DeFrancisco (aka @mindbodynina)

In this heart-expanding and hilariously honest episode of The Conscious Early Learning Podcast, I’m joined by Nina DeFrancisco, best known as @mindbodynina, a trauma-informed coach, content creator, and founder of the Humans Unplugged community. Nina shares her journey from psychology and social work into full-time coaching, offering nervous system regulation, holistic healing, inner child work, and honest-to-goodness humour as tools for self-leadership. We unpack how to return to your body, why ‘grandmother energy’ might just be your new favourite healing tool, and how internal family systems (IFS) / parts work can support deep transformation. Nina also shares her personal experience with thyroid cancer - and how it shifted the way she now shows up for herself and others with fierce compassion and truth. If you’re a parent, teacher, or caregiver who’s navigating your own healing while trying to show up for little ones, this conversation is a must. This episode will leave you feeling seen, grounded and gently reminded - healing doesn’t have to be so heavy, and you don’t have to do it alone.
