About The Conservative Caucus

The Conservative Caucus has been proudly and diligently fighting for our country and our country's values for half a century. At its height, TCC's influence extended to chapters in 225 of the country's 435 congressional districts, with TCC's weekly program, Conservative Roundtable, carried on 120 cable channels. TCC conferences attracted people from across the country, and TCC media events received coverage in the national news. Following the deaths of the organization's founder, Howard Phillips, TCC scaled back operations for a while. Today, with the country facing the greatest threat of left-wing political extremism in living memory, the Caucus is committed to building a grassroots network across the nation, and to using all forms of media to get the conservative message out, defending America and the principles this country stands for.

Dr. Colin Elliott - What Rome's Plagues Teach Us About Welfare #12

Jim Pfaff is joined by Dr. Colin Elliott, Roman history professor at Indiana University, for a lively exploration of charity, government, and welfare—ancient and modern. They delve into how the Roman Empire managed crises like the Antonine Plague, what "welfare" truly meant in the ancient world, and how early Christians transformed charity. With thought-provoking comparisons to today's debates on government programs and faith-driven aid, this episode delivers fresh insights for anyone interested in history, politics, or the roots of social responsibility. This mysterious epidemic struck Rome under Emperor Marcus Aurelius around 160 AD. Fascinated by how historians still debate the severity and causes of the disease—whether it decimated populations or was exaggerated by contemporary writers—Elliott delved deep into primary sources and scholarly debates. After five years of research, his work took on renewed relevance when the world faced its own pandemic in March 2020, drawing increased interest in historical parallels and prompting a publisher to approach him about his timely expertise. Mark Chenoweth - Chevron, Civil Liberties, and Government Overreach #11

Welcome to the Conservative Caucus podcast! On this episode of the Conservative Caucus podcast, host Jim Pfaff talks with Mark Chenoweth, President of the New Civil Liberties Alliance (NCLA), about the growing power of the administrative state and its threat to Americans' constitutional freedoms. Mark breaks down the NCLA's mission and recent legal victories—such as overturning Chevron deference at the Supreme Court—while providing practical examples of government overreach, due process concerns, and explaining why the fight for civil liberties matters now more than ever. For anyone concerned about bureaucratic overreach and the future of American liberty, this is a must-listen conversation. (00:02) Challenging the Modern Administrative State (08:01) Legal System and Government Overreach (13:07) Federal Permits vs. Nuisance Lawsuits (18:20) Supreme Court Bump Stock Ruling (25:43) Tribunal Bias and Rights Denial (30:11) Conflict in NLRB Judicial Roles (34:03) State Emergency Powers and Limits (42:47) Mass Data Collection Concerns (48:25) Qualified Immunity and Police Debate (54:05) Misuse of Public Rights Doctrine (57:50) Fraud and Waste in Aid Programs (01:01:15) Presidential Duty and Law Execution (01:09:04) Judicial Pushback on Trump Appointments (01:15:06) Optimism in Fighting Administrative Power (01:16:27) Restoring Presidential Control About Guest: Mark Chenoweth's journey is deeply tied to the story of the New Civil Liberties Alliance (NCLA), where he serves as President and General Counsel. The organization, founded approximately eight years ago by Columbia Law School Professor Philip Hamburger, was inspired by Hamburger's scholarship on religious liberty, particularly his monumental 2014 book, Is Administrative Law Unlawful? In that work, Hamburger drew striking parallels between the abuses of power the colonists suffered under King George III and those perpetuated by today's administrative state—warning that Americans had, in many ways, returned to the same threats to civil liberties the Constitution was meant to prevent. Chenoweth, working closely with Hamburger, has dedicated his legal career to challenging the excessive powers of the modern bureaucracy and defending constitutional freedoms. Through his advocacy at NCLA, Mark is at the forefront of efforts to restore civil liberties and uphold the founding principles that protect Americans from government overreach. Ryan Reeves - Charity and Why It Matters for Government Policy Today #10

Welcome to the Conservative Caucus podcast! In this episode, host Jim Pfaff sits down with Dr. Ryan Reeves, noted church historian and theologian, for an engaging discussion on the true role of charity in Christian life. They explore how the early church cared for the poor, the effectiveness of government versus private charity, and what the Bible really teaches about helping those in need. The conversation also addresses modern issues, including faith-based initiatives, government spending, and the ethical implications of AI. Tune in for a timely and thoughtful look at faith, charity, and public policy. During his time in seminary—a period when most peers prepared for ministry or nonprofit work—Reeves observed and often joked about how churches managed to help the poor more efficiently than government initiatives, which typically spent more for less impact. Reflecting on these shifts, Reeves notes it was within his own lifetime that conservative Christian attitudes began to change regarding government support, marking a significant transformation in how faith communities engage with broader social policies. En fantastisk app med et enormt stort udvalg af spændende podcasts. Podimo formår virkelig at lave godt indhold, der takler de lidt mere svære emner. At der så også er lydbøger oveni til en billig pris, gør at det er blevet min favorit app.
