If Your Year Isn’t Going as Planned, Listen to This
If the year does not look the way you thought it would by now, this episode will help you reset without shame, adjust with honesty, and choose the next aligned action that gets you moving again.
Episode Overview
This podcast is for the real estate agents building their dream life and business on their terms, especially if you're working another job, raising a family, or building it all at once.
In this episode of the Double Duty Agent Podcast, we are stepping into a mid-year goal reset. As we approach the midway point of the year, many agents start quietly checking out from the goals they set in January. Maybe life happened. Maybe your schedule changed. Maybe you did some of the things, but not as consistently as you hoped. Maybe you have avoided looking at your goals because you do not want to feel behind.
This episode is not about shame. It is not about pressure. It is about clarity.
Coach Carla walks you through how to look at your goals honestly, decide what needs to be adjusted, and reconnect your goals to action that feels aligned, sustainable, and doable in the season you are actually in.
You’ll learn:
* Why adjusting a goal is not the same as abandoning it
* How to tell whether you are adjusting from wisdom or avoiding from fear
* The difference between outcome goals, activity goals, and identity goals
* Why some goals inspire action while others create pressure or avoidance
* How to reset your goals without losing momentum
* Why your next aligned action matters more than creating the “perfect” goal
This isn’t just content. This is coaching. Let’s go.
“A goal is not there to shame you. A goal is simply there to guide you. And if your goal is no longer guiding you, it may be time to adjust it.”
Coaching Reflection Question
What goal did you set at the beginning of the year, and is that goal still aligned with the season you are actually in?
Are you adjusting it from wisdom, or are you avoiding it from fear?
Key Takeaways
1. Adjusting a goal is not giving up
Sometimes adjustment is wisdom. Sometimes adjustment is alignment. Sometimes adjusting your goal is what allows you to keep going instead of giving up completely.
The key is honesty. Are you adjusting because your life, capacity, schedule, priorities, or information has changed? Or are you adjusting because the goal got uncomfortable?
2. Outcome goals give direction
Outcome goals are the results you want, such as closings, income, listings, buyers, referrals, or transitioning from dual-career to full-time real estate.
They matter because they give you a destination. But they do not always tell you what to do today.
Ask yourself: Does this goal inspire me, or does it make me want to avoid my business?
3. Activity goals create movement
Activity goals are the actions you control, such as conversations, follow-up, open houses, database touches, notes, appointments, and skill practice.
This is where momentum gets built because activity goals bring the business back into your control.
Conversations create appointments.
Appointments create clients.
Clients create closings.
Closings create income.
If you want a different result, trace it back to the activity that creates it.
4. Identity goals help you become the person who follows through
Identity goals are about who you are becoming.
Examples:
* I am becoming someone who follows through.
* I am becoming an agent who has conversations consistently.
* I am becoming a business owner who honors my schedule.
* I am becoming someone who can be trusted with my own dreams.
The result may take time, but the identity can begin today.
Ask yourself: Who do I need to become to create the business I say I want?
5. Do not leave your reset without a next action
A reset feels good for a day, but nothing changes unless you choose the next aligned action.
Before you move on, decide:
* Who will I call?
* Who will I follow up with?
* What time block will I protect?
* What conversation will I practice?
* What appointment will I ask for?
* What support will I request?
Momentum returns when reflection turns into action.
This Week’s Coaching Moment
Take 15 minutes and ask yourself:
* What goal did I set at the beginning of the year?
* Is that goal still aligned?
* Am I adjusting it from wisdom or avoiding it from fear?
* What type of goal moves me into action?
* Do I need an outcome goal, an activity goal, an identity goal, or all three?
* What is one action I can take this week to rebuild momentum?
You are allowed to adjust. You are allowed to tell the truth. You are allowed to change the timeline. You are allowed to choose a goal that fits the season you are actually in.
Just do not use the adjustment as a reason to disappear from your own dream.
