Description

We wrapped up our Road to Evil Dead Burn by revisiting the 2013 remake of Evil Dead… and it completely changed Amy's opinion of the movie. William still thinks it's one of the strongest entries in the franchise thanks to its brutal gore, smarter character setup, and relentless horror. Amy isn't convinced. After watching Bruce Campbell's original trilogy for the first time, the cabin just isn't the same without Ash. Did Evil Dead (2013) improve the original, or did it lose what made Evil Dead special? 🎥 Watch the full video episode: https://youtu.be/I6t148MFLwI [https://youtu.be/I6t148MFLwI] 🩸 Read our full written review: https://thefearreview.com/reviews/evil-dead/ [https://thefearreview.com/reviews/evil-dead/] 🎬 Watch our Evil Dead Franchise Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcnsL0vXWtck&si=5iOK7IqOCzRoTVYa [https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcnsL0vXWtck&si=5iOK7IqOCzRoTVYa]   Around here...The Fear is Family.

Exit 8 Review | It Made Us Yell at the Screen

Exit 8 traps a man inside an endless subway corridor where one overlooked anomaly sends him all the way back to the beginning. The rules sound simple, but Exit 8 quickly turned us from passive viewers into players studying every poster, door, vent, and person on the screen. We discuss: * How the repeating corridor keeps the movie engaging instead of becoming repetitive * Why we started playing along and yelling at the characters * The balance between subtle anomalies and full horror sequences * How the confined setting creates constant tension and claustrophobia * The emotional story hidden inside the video game concept * What the corridor and its characters may represent * Whether the movie successfully captures the experience of playing the original game Watch and listen to The Fear Review: Website: https://thefearreview.com [https://thefearreview.com/] Full Episodes: https://episodes.thefearreview.com   YouTube Shorts: https://shorts.thefearreview.com  Spotify: https://spotify.thefearreview.com  Apple Podcasts: https://apple.thefearreview.com  Amazon Music: https://amazon.thefearreview.com  Around here, The Fear is Family.

Georgia Bernstein Breaks Down Night Nurse, Cronenberg, & Reinventing the Erotic Thriller

Writer/director Georgia Bernstein joins The Fear Review to talk about her debut feature, Night Nurse, which premiered at Sundance and is releasing through IFC Films. In this conversation, William talks with Georgia about the inspirations behind Night Nurse, the film’s complex power dynamics, the influence of David Cronenberg’s Crash, writing the lead role for Cemre, casting Douglas, and creating the movie’s dreamlike, out-of-time atmosphere. Night Nurse opens in limited theaters July 10. Night Nurse Is an Erotic Thriller Without the Thrill

This week on The Fear Review, we’re talking about Night Nurse, the new IFC psychological thriller from writer/director Georgia Bernstein. This one was a miss for both of us, but for slightly different reasons. William could see the ideas the movie was reaching for — power dynamics, manipulation, obsession, and a dreamlike atmosphere — but the script never fully convinced him of the central relationship. Amy had a much simpler reaction: she was bored. We get into why the erotic thriller angle did not fully work for us, why the slow-burn approach may connect with some viewers more than it did with us, and why the spoiler section is where some of our biggest frustrations really come out. Night Nurse opens in limited theaters July 10. We also interviewed writer/director Georgia Bernstein about the film’s inspirations, power dynamics, Cronenberg influence, and dreamlike style. Evil Dead Burn Doesn't Let You Breathe

We finally reached the end of our Road to Evil Dead Burn, and this one put both of us through it. William loved how relentless Evil Dead Burn is. Amy walked away completely spent after one of the most intense horror experiences she's had in a theater. The gore is bigger. The action is faster. But what surprised us most wasn’t just how bloody it gets, but how mean this movie feels compared to the rest of the franchise. Is this the next evolution of Evil Dead or did it finally push the franchise too far? Spoiler-free until our clearly marked spoiler section.
