Being called to MOM, and also being called to serve, a conversation with Jessie Kuhn,
I was bowled over when I heard Jessie Kuhn of Oaks Counseling say, “it took me three kids to realize I was being called to be a Mom”. It’s those types of unfiltered truths that we need to hear today. Courageous Moms who are willing to hold themselves to a standard of need, YES, you read that right, a standard of need. You thought I was going to say a standard of perfection right? Nope, you should know me better than that.
Realizing that where we are now, isn’t necessarily where we will be is one of the first steps towards self-acceptance and improvement. Oftentimes we can be blind to recognizing that our own needs as parents sometimes fall secondary to the homeschool agenda. I struggle with this daily, but even greater than me, greater than how I feel, is realizing that I need HIM, even more, to move me where I need to be.

This conversation challenged me, and in fact, in the last few weeks from taping, I even had the privilege to implement some things like using worship to start my mornings. This transition from the constant news playing in the background, to a few minutes in worship has had some tangible results in my home. I feel as though I have tools to both serve my family, attend to my profession and be present in my calling.

She’s been married for 14 years and serves as the clinical director of Oaks Counseling, a counseling ministry for missionaries and cross-cultural workers.
