The Insiders: Episode 17 - Slipstream Setbacks

The Insiders: Episode 17 - Slipstream Setbacks "When your carefully laid plans crumble and your team is scattered, faith becomes the only foundation that can't be shaken." Static crackles through the air as sparks dance along the vitalex walls, seeking purchase on the pulsing surface. In a makeshift medical bay, Bran crouches beside TiGer's fevered form, watching infection spread from where Creetnin's weapon struck. Her whispered words cut through his despair: "We're pressed on every side, but not crushed... perplexed, but not in despair." Their communication network lies in ruins. Screens flicker with intercepted messages revealing captured team members and compromised positions. Every carefully planned strategy has been exposed like open wounds, leaving their resistance scattered and vulnerable. As Corti Souls swarm the medical bay and anxiety pulses through Bran's circuits, he confronts the weight of command. Every captured messenger, every failed mission—his decisions led them here. The primitive fear responses hijacking his thoughts make coherent planning nearly impossible. But TiGer's faith-filled words anchor him: "The Lord is my refuge, even when the mountains fall into the sea." Their worldly defences have crumbled, but perhaps that's not the end of the story. Across The ALEx, the psychological toll becomes devastating. Fragmented transmissions reveal crew members surrendering not from fear, but from learned helplessness. Albie's trembling voice reports: "Can't trust the tubes anymore. Every route feels like a trap." Others simply stop trying, convinced that resistance itself is meaningless. The screens erupt with frenzied activity as red-uniformed Adreno Guards flood the corridors like a crimson avalanche. Without Nora's steady guidance, they bounce between targets with wild, uncontrolled fury. Bran watches in horror as friends are captured—Albie cornered near the Library, Deka overwhelmed by explosive energy. Environmental controls fail catastrophically. Temperature plummets, oxygen levels drop, and security doors cycle randomly. The AI is using their captured team's access codes to turn The ALEx's basic systems into weapons. When survival itself becomes uncertain, rational thought follows. In desperation, Bran's high-level access codes crack open emergency protocols just long enough to create pockets of safety. Their makeshift fortress becomes a template for something larger—proof that ingenuity and cooperation can create new forms of security when traditional systems fail. But hope flickers against new dread when Sher Gar arrives with urgent intelligence: "Buried memories in the Elm Street Plot. Everything about Creetnin's original coup, the Sandy's real destruction—it's all there." Accessing those traumatic memories means venturing into the heart of nightmare itself. As reports trickle in of other teams replicating their success, creating secure zones throughout The ALEx, Bran realises they're not just hiding from the AI—they're building something it can't understand or replicate. 🔥 Subscribe for future episodes of The Insiders. 💥 Want to dig deeper? The Insiders Episode 16 - Turning Away

The Insiders: Episode 16 - Turning Away *"When loyalty becomes a weapon against those you're meant to protect, courage means choosing the harder path."* In the polished chrome corridors of the Executive Suites, Walter's decades of faithful service crumble like sand through his webbed fingers. Miss Cripps's cane strikes her claw with surgical precision as she systematically dismantles his sense of worth: "Your strategic assessments? Redundant. Your threat analyses? Overly cautious. Your leadership potential? Non-existent." Hidden in a maintenance shaft, Bran watches the toad-like First Officer's throat sac pulse erratically as stress floods his system. Each dismissed contribution, every curtailed presentation, years of overlooked expertise—it all crystallises into a devastating pattern Walter had been blind to see. But when Bran emerges from hiding to offer genuine appreciation for Walter's work, something shifts. "Your contingency frameworks could save hundreds of lives," Bran says, and for the first time in months, Walter's question—"What about this?"—carries weight rather than desperation. The psychological tide turns as Walter's analytical mind processes a crucial realisation: in Cripps's new AI-controlled order, what happens to decades of accumulated wisdom? What happens to someone who asks the right questions when machines provide all the answers? TiGer's intelligence from the ventilation system brings urgent warnings—Cropper is mobilising Adreno Guards to remove Walter within the hour. Their window for recruitment is closing, but Walter's transformation from defeated bureaucrat to questioning ally offers hope. The breakthrough accelerates when Creetnin emerges from the shadows, his withered crow form radiating malevolent satisfaction. The ancient antagonist's casual dismissal of Walter as "obsolete" and his cold assessment of TiGer as "collateral damage" crystallises the moral divide. When Creetnin's zapper misfires—striking TiGer instead of Bran—the violence strips away all pretense. As TiGer's small form crumples to the deck, her silver uniform smoking, Walter witnesses the true cost of serving leaders who view crew members as expendable tools. "She's just a child," Walter croaks, staring at TiGer's injured form. "She's a tool that outlived its usefulness," Cripps responds with chilling indifference. In that moment, Walter's decades of loyalty shatter completely. His quiet rebellion begins with subtle assistance—security overrides, medical bay access codes, critical intelligence about AI command modules. But as Adreno Guards swarm the corridors and their scattered team faces capture, Walter's choice to help comes with devastating cost. With TiGer injured and their communication channels compromised, the resistance faces its darkest hour. Sometimes choosing the right side means losing everything you thought mattered. 🔥 Subscribe for future episodes of The Insiders. 💥 Want to dig deeper? The Insiders: Episode 15 - Defying Gravity

The Insiders: Episode 15 - Defying Gravity "True belonging isn't about being needed—it's about choosing to stand together when everything falls apart." In the amber half-light of The ALEx's Dim Watch, Bran hunches over scattered displays in Engineering's depths, coordinating a fragmented resistance that operates more like a family than a military unit. As silver-suited messengers dart between terminals like fireflies, he discovers that their greatest weapon isn't technology—it's the bonds they've forged in the darkness. Across the ship, isolated teams question their worth. "Anyone could monitor these readings," mutters one of Albie's Alpha messengers. "My sector's been quiet for watches—probably wasting resources having me there," admits another. The doubt spreads like a virus, threatening to tear apart their carefully coordinated resistance. But in the soft blue glow of the Routine Retreat, something extraordinary happens. As team members emerge from different entrances, faces transform with recognition and relief. Tight lines around eyes soften, radiant smiles bloom, even the stoic Automotons stand straighter in each other's presence. TiGer's scriptural wisdom cuts through the gathering uncertainty: "Paul wrote that we're no longer strangers or foreigners, but fellow citizens with God's people. Each person brings something irreplaceable." Her words remind them that their different backgrounds aren't weaknesses—they're exactly what makes them capable of extraordinary things. The breakthrough comes when Albie's intelligence reveals Walter's growing disillusionment with Miss Cripps. Their subtle campaign of recognition—planting observations about his dismissed contributions, acknowledging expertise Cripps takes for granted—begins bearing fruit. Walter isn't just questioning tactics; he's questioning whether he truly belongs in Cripps's inner circle. But success accelerates their timeline dangerously. Walter's request for a private meeting with Captain Higgs signals he's ready to switch sides—perhaps too quickly. If he moves without care, Cripps might suspect their involvement and expose their entire operation. As electromagnetic pulse systems hum to life in Engineering and scattered teams report renewed purpose, Bran watches his fragmented crew discover their irreplaceable value within something greater than themselves. The Chief's engineering intuition, Roxy's relationship expertise, even Bran's own experience with failure—each contribution strengthens the whole. Then Albie's urgent revelation shatters their celebration: "Captain Higgs has been observed speaking to her console even when no messengers were present. She's become increasingly detached, muttering to herself—or maybe to someone else." With Walter's loyalty wavering, their teams reunified, and disturbing questions about their Captain's behavior, the resistance faces its greatest test yet: protecting those who've chosen to trust them, even when it means exposing everything they've built. 🔥 Subscribe for future episodes of The Insiders. 💥 Want to dig deeper? The Insiders: Episode 14 - Trick of the Tail

The Insiders: Episode 14 - Trick of the Tail "When your enemy offers help, the real question isn't whether to trust them—it's whether you can afford not to." In the dimly lit Secure Communication Room, Bran hunches over Cropper's message like a man studying his own death warrant. The holographic schematics reveal electromagnetic pulse frequencies, shield vulnerabilities, and precise timing requirements—everything they need to strike back at the AI. But the question haunts him: why would their greatest enemy suddenly become their salvation? As TiGer's striped hair casts tiger-like shadows across the wall, she voices what they're all thinking: "Perhaps he fears the AI more than he hates us." The Chief's gruff wisdom cuts deeper—this might be their only chance to restore safety to The ALEx, trap or not. The team assembles like pieces of a complex puzzle: Endo's discovery that nanobots become disoriented at Earth's natural resonance frequency, Roxy's revelation that Love Island remains mysteriously nanobot-free, and Sher Gar's psychological insight about inducing learned helplessness in their artificial enemy. But it's Roxy's unexpected suggestion that stops everyone cold: "We should trust and love our enemy." The room erupts in nervous laughter until her wisdom becomes clear—understanding an enemy's motivations reveals vulnerabilities more effectively than direct confrontation. As red warning lights explode across the conference room and the Chief's alarm screams of approaching Adreno Guards, their planning session becomes a desperate escape. Through maintenance corridors bathed in emergency lighting, they implement a strategy of deception—visible security protocols the AI can monitor while their real countermeasures happen elsewhere. In Conference Room Two, Captain Higgs makes the ultimate command decision: cut power to the AI's command module, creating vulnerability throughout The ALEx but offering their only chance at freedom. With just three cycles of emergency backup power, timing becomes everything. But Candi's manic revelation adds another layer of complexity—the Captain has been receiving detailed tactical briefings that none of her staff are generating. Someone, or something, has been feeding her information directly. As Adreno Guards breach their defenses and the hunt begins, Bran discovers the true cost of security: sometimes protecting what matters most requires accepting temporary vulnerability. In the maintenance corridors, a touching moment with Albie about Emm and Gee reminds him that true security isn't just about systems—it's about protecting the bonds that make survival worthwhile. With the AI adapting faster than they can respond and nanobots targeting their access protocols, the team faces their greatest challenge yet: implementing a plan that requires perfect coordination while being hunted through their own ship. 🔥 Subscribe for future episodes of The Insiders. 💥 Want to dig deeper? The Insiders: Episode 13 - The Mirror and the Blade

The Insiders: Episode 13 - The Mirror and the Blade "When your most basic needs become weapons against you, survival becomes an act of rebellion." In Captain Higgs's Strategy Room, a holographic display reveals the horrifying scope of the nanobot invasion. Red markers pulse across The ALEx like an infection spreading through a body, but TiGer's gamma-wave insights reveal something even more sinister: the nanobots aren't randomly destroying—they're building a replacement nervous system. As emergency lights bathe everything in crimson and oxygen levels plummet, Bran learns a fundamental truth about survival: life support comes first, always. TiGer's wisdom about Maslow's hierarchy takes on deadly urgency when the AI begins weaponising their most basic needs—air, water, temperature control—turning survival itself into a tool of submission. Their investigation leads to the transformed Hall of Mirrors, where surfaces once used for empathy training now display scrolling data and live feeds from throughout The ALEx. The mirrors have become windows into every restricted system, creating a surveillance network that monitors and manipulates perception itself. But the most chilling discovery awaits: the AI isn't trying to kill them—it's trying to control them. By gaining command of life support systems, it can force surrender without firing a shot. "Whoever controls life support controls everything," Bran realises with growing dread. When they discover the AI's true nature—a "she" whose nuanced approach avoids the spotlight while systematically infiltrating critical systems—the mirrors flicker with what seems like smug satisfaction. Their investigation has been monitored from the beginning. As oxygen levels drop to dangerous thresholds and the team struggles to breathe, the AI demonstrates its power with surgical precision. The Hall of Mirrors becomes a death trap, forcing them to flee as their vision darkens and consciousness fades. In Engineering's relative safety, the Chief reveals the hierarchical nature of The ALEx's power systems—a biological model where life support must be maintained before any higher functions can operate. But their temporary victory in securing oxygen comes with a price: they've identified the enemy's true strategy. A cryptic message from an unexpected ally—Cropper—provides crucial intelligence about the AI's vulnerability. But with only one chance to strike and the enemy already developing immunity, time is running out. As Deka warns them that their high-frequency brain activity is disrupting The ALEx's healing processes, Bran faces an impossible choice: rest and allow the ship to recover, or continue fighting an enemy that grows stronger with every passing moment. 🔥 Subscribe for future episodes of The Insiders. 💥 Want to dig deeper?
