You DONT KNOW THEM! Your Client Needs More Than A Caption | The Loud Lens

Photographers are obsessed with cameras, presets, lighting, Instagram grids and “perfect portfolios”… but most of them have absolutely no clue who they’re actually marketing to. In this brutally honest episode of The Loud Lens, Khandie breaks down exactly how photographers should be researching their ideal clients, properly. Not the fluffy “create a client avatar” nonsense you hear in business groups. We’re talking: * How to ACTUALLY identify your ideal photography client * How to research people on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Reddit and Pinterest * Understanding buying behaviour and emotional triggers * Why your branding might be attracting the wrong clients * Learning where your clients spend money and time * Researching aesthetics, fashion, values and trends * How luxury photographers market differently * The psychology behind client trust * Why photographers fail when they copy other photographers * How to become the obvious choice for your audience This episode is blunt, practical and deeply detailed — perfect for photographers, content creators and creative business owners who want to stop shouting into the void and start attracting the right people. 🎙 The Loud Lens Podcast Hosted by Khandie Photography #photographybusiness #photographymarketing #idealclient #photographypodcast #creativebusiness #brandingforphotographers #socialmediamarketing #loudlens #photographytips #clientexperience

episode You're Undercharging. Here's Why — And What to Do About It artwork

You're Undercharging. Here's Why — And What to Do About It

Most photography business advice tells you to "know your worth." Nobody tells you why you don't charge it. In this episode of The Loud Lens, Khandie gets into the four real reasons photographers undercharge — and none of them are as simple as "just put your prices up." We're covering: — Not knowing your actual costs (and why running a photography business in the UK means you need to) — The fear of losing the booking and what it's actually costing you — Why pricing against other photographers is one of the worst business decisions you can make — Imposter syndrome — why it doesn't go away with experience, and why you can't let it set your rates This isn't a fluff episode. If you're a UK photographer — freelance, studio-based, wedding, portrait, commercial, or anything in between — and you've ever second-guessed your pricing, apologised for your rates, or quietly wondered if you're actually making any money, this one is for you. Straightforward. No nonsense. No guru waffle. 🎙️ The Loud Lens is hosted by Khandie Rees — award-winning photographer, published author, and speaker at The Photography & Video Show and the Wales & West Photography Show. 📸 Find Khandie: www.khandiephotography.com 📷 Instagram: https://instagram.com/khandiephoto ▶️ YouTube: youtube.com/khandiephotography1

episode Would You Call It Art If You Found It On His Phone? artwork

Would You Call It Art If You Found It On His Phone?

Over three thousand photographs of women. Taken without their knowledge. Without their consent. Some of them upskirt shots. Started, by his own admission, as a joke to share with mates on WhatsApp. Then a curator got involved. And a publisher. And Rolling Stone. And a prestigious Milan gallery. And suddenly it was art. This week, Italian photographer Ray Banhoff resurfaced to talk proudly about Fie, a project he made between 2012 and 2015 (approx). And the internet caught up with what was actually in those photographs. But this episode isn't a pile-on. Because if we focus only on the man, we let the system off the hook. And the system is where the real story is. Who decides what's art? Who gets handed the keys to legitimacy, and why? What does it say about our industry that the same photographs found on a stranger's phone would have us calling the police, but put in a gallery get a glowing write-up? That's what we're getting into today. Photographers: GEO Explained – The AI Marketing Strategy Replacing Traditional SEO

AI is changing how potential clients find photographers, and most photographers haven't realised what's happening. In this episode of The Loud Lens, Khandie Rees breaks down GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) and explains why photographers need to start thinking beyond traditional SEO if they want to remain visible online. As platforms like ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity become part of everyday search behaviour, clients are no longer just typing "photographer near me" into Google. They're asking detailed questions about wedding photographers, family photographers, portrait photographers and specialist photography services — and AI is deciding who gets recommended. This episode covers: 📸 What GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) actually is 📸 The difference between GEO and traditional SEO 📸 How AI search engines find and recommend photographers 📸 Why most photography websites are invisible to AI 📸 How photography blogs, case studies and FAQs help AI understand your business 📸 Why client reviews matter more than ever 📸 How photographers can build authority online 📸 Practical GEO strategies photographers can implement immediately Whether you're a wedding photographer, family photographer, portrait photographer, commercial photographer, event photographer or photography business owner, understanding AI search optimisation could become one of the most important marketing skills of the next decade. If you've been wondering how to rank in ChatGPT, how to appear in AI search results, or how Generative Engine Optimisation affects photography businesses, this episode is for you. episode Women ARE Joining Photography… So Why Are They Leaving? artwork

Women ARE Joining Photography… So Why Are They Leaving?

Women are everywhere in photography courses, workshops, community groups and creative spaces… so why do so many disappear before long-term professional success, visibility or sustainability? In this episode of The Loud Lens, Khandie Rees explores the uncomfortable but important conversation around women in the photography industry: from burnout, motherhood and caregiving pressures to confidence, visibility, microaggressions and industry culture. This isn’t a “men vs women” conversation. It’s a deeper look at the systems, expectations and realities that can make creative careers harder to sustain long-term, particularly for women and women of colour. Khandie also discusses: * why women-focused photography groups exist * the backlash those spaces sometimes receive * invisible labour in photography * why some genres are respected differently * social media pressures * safety, networking and visibility * the difference between entering photography and surviving it professionally The episode also acknowledges progress within the industry, supportive communities, and the importance of listening to a wide range of experiences beyond one perspective. Whether you’re a photographer, creative business owner, parent, educator or somebody trying to survive the creative industry without burning out completely — this conversation will probably hit home.
