Tyrone next for new-look Mayo

The draw for Round 2A of the All-Ireland Series has pitted Mayo against Tyrone in Omagh for the second summer in a row.  Billy Joe Padden joins Mike and Rob to discuss the draw, reflect on Sunday's win over Monaghan, talk about the way the team selection is evolving, and what issues need to be addressed before Mayo arrive in Tyrone.

Andy rings the changes for Clones

Mayo's team selection for Sunday's All-Ireland SFC series game against Monaghan shows five changes from the side that started the defeat against Roscommon.  Aidan Kilcoyne joins Mike to discuss Andy Moran's selection, including the decision to drop the likes of Rob Hennelly, Paddy Durcan and Aidan O'Shea and hand championship debuts to Jack Livingstone, Diarmuid Duffy and Darragh Beirne.

Chatting with Colm Keys

We start the week leading into Mayo's first game in the All-Ireland SFC series by having a chat with one of the country's leading Gaelic Games correspondents.  Colm Keys of the Irish Independent joins Mike to give us his thoughts on where Mayo now stand ahead of their trip to Monaghan on Sunday, and the lads also discuss some of the weekend's games and touch on the subject of the latest blockbuster football rivalry between Kerry and Donegal.

2006: Mayo's Under-21 odyssey

Last month marked 20 years since Mayo won an historic All-Ireland Under-21 football championship title by beating Cork in Ennis.  This weekend those players are having a reunion in Westport to celebrate the 20th anniversary of that famous triumph.  To mark the occasion, Mike caught up with three of the men who were integral to that success — Barry Moran, Mickey Conroy and Aidan Kilcoyne to chat about their memories of that season, hear a few war stories from behind the dressing-room door, and talk about how they view that All-Ireland win and their subsequent careers all these years later.

EirGrid looking for GAA Community Heroes

EirGrid, the operator and developer of Ireland’s electricity grid, have also been the main sponsors of our Club Stars awards for the last two years. Recently, EirGrid also launched the second year of their GAA Community Heroes National Volunteer competition. And with the deadline for entries coming up this Sunday night, we wanted to remind our MFT listeners why you (or somebody you know) should get involved. The four provincial winners’ designated clubs will each receive €5,000, while there will be awards of €1,500 to the clubs of the honourable mentions. An overall national winner will be selected from the provincial winners, and their club will receive an additional €5,000, for a total award of €10,000.  So there are plenty of good reasons for you to get involved over the next couple of days, and get your entry in before midnight this Sunday, May 17th. Ciara Galvin, who is the Media Lead with EirGrid, joined Mike to chat a bit more about the competition and to explain how people can enter to be in the running for some great prizes.
