Description

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2508218/fan_mail/new] The Sorsby injunction is still the topic dominating college sports and it leaves us wondering if the rules still matter anymore.....and we're a rules podcast! There are still two sports left going right now: Baseball begins the College World Series on Friday and the Track and Field Championships commence in Oregon. But the focus remains on Sorsby and Texas Tech's response to the backlash. The AD is taking the moderate, protective route [https://texastech.com/news/2026/6/10/football-kirby-hocutt-statement-on-brendan-sorsby]. Meanwhile, Cody Campbell is going more offensive tactic, even invoking Penn State! Can the Big 12 do something? All indications are it will not succeed, even with the ire and the threat of non-scheduling from other power conference schools. What a mess has been made, we just want college sports to be preserved for what makes them great, including the interity of the competition. Will that survive? For now, the answer is nobody knows.

Show-Cause Conversations: Michael Elkins

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2508218/fan_mail/new] We finally had some legal representation on the show; Michael Elkins joined us to discuss Brendan Sorsby and a variety of college sports topics from his legal expertise point of view. Michael is a 25-year labor, employment, and sports attorney who founded MLE Law [https://mlelawfirm.com/], and he has been quoted by CNN, Forbes, Bloomberg, and Newsweek on issues ranging from NFL controversies to collective bargaining fights. He explains the Sorsby injunction decision from a legal perspective which may alter how you think about the judge's ruling. We also discuss, NIL, the NCAA's inability to change, Super League potentials, collective bargaining in college sports, among other current topics. Appreciative of his time and thoughtful discussions on this subject. You can follow Michael on Instagram [https://www.instagram.com/melkins1/], Tik Tok [https://www.tiktok.com/@melkins1], and LinkedIn [https://www.linkedin.com/in/mlelaw/] on the socials.

110: Let's Celebrate a Year of the Pod by Sounding the Show-Cause Alarm(with Emergency Break-In for the Sorsby Decision)!

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2508218/fan_mail/new] A Landmark episode. Because we are officially over a year of this podcast? No, while that is notable and we reflect on the past year of the No Show-Cause Show, we are of course talking about the Sorsby decision that went down today. A Texas state judge has granted a temporary injunction in favor of Sorsby despite the damning evidence and the NCAA ruling him permanently ineligible. Aside from the foundational consequences of overruling established gambling policy for college sports (and essentially all American sports), this could be part of the final crumbling of the NCAA establishment. Elsewhere, the Texas softball team repeats, and we recap the Baseball action where just about all the tickets are punched for Omaha. Once again the Super Regionals delivered. For the FRI: we had a show-cause order issued in college football for tampering! But before you are surprised, consider who it is for and why it is not a power 4 institution. Finally, the NCAA made common-sense progress on the 5 for 5 rule, making adjustments to account for some sporting entities that were against the start of the window in the first iteration.

109: Moving a Week 0 Game, and Poking Holes in the Protect College Sports Act

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2508218/fan_mail/new] We revisit some scheduling items off the heels of last episode's theme; NC State and Virginia move their week 0 game out of Brazil, we take this as an opportunity for our Featured Rules Item as to what the current week 0 rules are. We also take a look at both the FBS 12-team playoff and 24-team FCS playoff and lament the ridiculous FBS lagtime between rounds. We then discuss the Protect College Sports Act. Some good, but mostly consistent frustration with how politicians are framing the argument. The SEC and Big Ten [https://x.com/SEC/status/2061930866507383180] have come out in opposition but also want to make changes suited to them. Finally, we take another look at our Spring Sports Update, there is a new national champion, a soon to tbe champion in Softball, and Super Regionals in Baseball.
