About The One Big Thing with Steve Campbell

Hey there — I’m Steve Campbell. I’m a husband, dad to four amazing kids, follower of Jesus, and someone who wakes up every day wanting to help people live with more clarity, courage, and purpose. Life has taught me that faith isn’t just something you talk about — it’s something you live, wrestle with, and anchor everything to. My relationship with Jesus shapes how I love my family, how I lead, how I speak, and how I show up for others. Every podcast, conversation, and connection I make starts there — from a place of grace, humility, and hope. My Heart Behind The One Big Thing I started The One Big Thing podcast because I believe each of us is created on purpose and for a purpose. We all carry something unique that can make a difference — not someday, but right now. Through the stories, lessons, and conversations on the podcast, my prayer is that you’ll discover the spark God placed in you and feel encouraged to take your next faithful step. I don’t have all the answers — but I’ve learned that when you stay close to Jesus, stay curious, and keep moving forward, amazing things can unfold.

The Hidden Reason You Feel Stuck Spiritually - with Justin Buonomo

In this episode, I’m joined by Justin Buonomo, the owner and creator of Journey to Financial Freedom (JFF)—but what we get into goes way beyond money. After coming off one of the hardest and most refining seasons of my life, this conversation hit deep. Justin and I unpack what it really looks like to follow Jesus when things don’t make sense—when suffering shows up, when prayers feel unanswered, and when you’re forced to confront the parts of your heart you’d rather ignore. We talk about: * The role of suffering as God’s refining process * How sin and shame quietly hold you back from who you’re called to be * Why many believers misunderstand God’s heart—especially around money and worthiness * What it actually looks like to walk in freedom, not just talk about it * And the one big thing Justin is learning right now: how to break free from shame by fully accepting what happened on the cross This isn’t a surface-level conversation. It’s honest, raw, and rooted in the reality that following Jesus will stretch you, break you, and ultimately rebuild you into who you were meant to be. If you’ve been wrestling with shame, feeling stuck, or trying to make sense of a hard season—this one’s for you. 📖 Book Reference - He Loves Me! Waiting on God’s Timing: My Story of Faith, Provision & Trust in Hard Seasons | Steve Campbell

This brand new episode is a little different. It's been three months since I've recorded an episode and I felt the need to share my story and what God's done. There’s no guest joining me today—just me, speaking directly to you from the heart. Over the last few months, my family and I walked through one of the hardest and most humbling seasons of our lives. After stepping away from a career I thought would be my long-term security, I found myself in a place of uncertainty, no paycheck, closed doors, and more questions than answers. What followed was a season where God taught me how to truly wait on Him… not just say I trusted Him, but actually trust Him when I couldn’t see the outcome. He stripped away pride, fear, identity in work, and the need to control everything—and showed me what real provision looks like. In this episode, I’m opening up about the internal battles I faced, the moments I wanted to quit, and the unexpected ways God showed up for our family right on time. I’m also sharing how this season changed my faith, my perspective, and my understanding of what it means to surrender. If you’re in a waiting season right now… if doors have closed… if life feels uncertain… I hope my story reminds you that God has not forgotten you. My One Big Thing: Sometimes God delays what we want so He can develop who we’re becoming. 🎙️ In this episode, I share: * What happened when I stepped away from my career * The struggle of waiting when nothing makes sense * How God provided in ways I never expected * Why suffering can produce deeper faith * Letting go of control and trusting God’s timing * What I learned about identity beyond success This is one of the most personal episodes I’ve ever recorded, and I’m grateful you’re here to listen. ________________________________________ Join my YouTube Community of subscribers where you can watch all my episodes at https://www.youtube.com/@stevecampbellpr [https://www.youtube.com/@stevecampbellpr] Thanks to one of my show sponsors! 💪🏼 Are you looking to get in the best shape of your life? What Jesus Is Teaching Us Through Suffering — with Jake Kauffman

This episode marks a brand-new chapter for The One Big Thing. From here on out, every conversation will center on faith — on what Jesus is teaching us in this season of life. I couldn’t think of a better person to start this new direction with than my friend Jake Kauffman. Jake and I go deep on something that every believer eventually faces: the role of suffering and dependence in our walk with Jesus. We talk about what it means to trust God when life unravels, why true transformation often comes through pain, and how the wilderness seasons of life can actually draw us closer to Him. You’ll hear Jake share his story of loss, healing, and renewal — and how God met him in the middle of it. We explore what spiritual maturity really looks like, the beauty of surrender, and why God’s favor often shows up in ways we don’t expect. If you’re walking through a hard season or wondering where God is in the middle of your struggle, I want you to know — you’re not alone. God’s not done with you. Your story is still being written. Listen in and be encouraged — Jesus is at work in your life too. __________________________________________ Join my YouTube Community of over 37k subscribers where you can watch all my episodes at https://www.youtube.com/@stevecampbellpr [https://www.youtube.com/@stevecampbellpr] Thanks to one of my show sponsors! 💪🏼 Are you looking to get in the best shape of your life? Justin Masterson on Emotional Maturity, Leadership, and Living with Intention

In this episode of The One Big Thing, I had the privilege of sitting down with former MLB pitcher and current high school coach Justin Masterson. You might know him from his days on the mound with the Red Sox, but what really struck me in our conversation was his heart for people and his deep insights on emotional maturity. We talked about what it means to grow—not just as a leader or athlete, but as a human being. Justin shared how his definition of maturity has evolved into the ability to handle emotions well, especially in the face of hardship. Whether he's coaching teenagers, navigating marriage, or serving in his community, he’s learned that staying relational and grounded is key. In this episode, we dive into: 1. The emotional weight athletes carry behind the scenes 2. How to lead with empathy and humility in high-pressure environments 3. Practical tools like the “CAKE” acronym and quieting techniques to regulate emotions 4. Why identity and belonging are essential for real transformation 5. Honest stories of failure, forgiveness, and fatherhood I even share a personal story about a moment I blew it as a dad—and what it taught me about grace, humility, and the power of saying “I’m sorry.” If you’re someone who wants to grow in emotional intelligence, lead with more compassion, or just be a better version of yourself, this episode is for you. We’re not aiming for perfection—just progress. _________________________________ About Justin Masterson Justin Masterson is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who spent eight seasons in the big leagues with the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Guardians (formerly Indians), and St. Louis Cardinals. Known for his resilience and leadership on the mound, he made history as the youngest Red Sox pitcher since Babe Ruth to win a playoff game and was selected as an All-Star in 2013. His career highlights include pitching an immaculate inning and recording four strikeouts in a single inning. After retiring from professional baseball in 2017 to prioritize family, Justin transitioned into a life of service and mentorship. He now coaches varsity baseball at Fishers High School in Indiana, where he also helps develop athletes’ mental skills through programs like “Awaken the Tiger” and “Eye of the Tiger.” He’s a substitute teacher, motivational speaker, and host of The Justin Masterson Show podcast. Justin and his wife founded the Fortress Foundation in 2013 to support individuals in need, and they continue to work with organizations like PHARE Warrior and Wayfinders. Above all, Justin is passionate about helping others grow in emotional maturity—defined as the ability to stay relational and grounded in the face of life’s biggest challenges. _________________________________ Listen to the One Big Thing on your favorite platform at https://pod.link/1689287620 [https://pod.link/1689287620] You can watch all episodes on my YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@stevecampbellpr [https://www.youtube.com/@stevecampbellpr] ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I'd also love for you to subscribe to this podcast and leave a rating and review.
