About The Porchmen Dialogues

Mullings over soccer and other assorted interests, but a primary focus on the plights at Spurs and United. The two Porchmen are Andrew Hover and Geoff Melvin, lifelong friends from the block and sport commentators with no level of profession. Join us as we laugh and shake our heads, as well as enjoy the successes and lament the shortfalls of our clubs. With the help of other friends, we’ll make our way through the season with some occasional insight sneaking through. Please be so kind as to leave a review if you like what you hear.

Superb Owl

Enjoy a retrospective from Super Bowl Sunday as Geoff and Andrew recap results from the New Year onward. Manchester United are sat in second behind town rivals City, who were continuing an unbeaten streak toward the top of the table. United showed a pattern of snatching victory from the jaws of defeat, especially away from home grounds. A segment on what is needed from the best players in order to win matches, along with a recap of an historic 9-0 win for Man U. The Premier League is the best in the world, so elite defending is more and more necessary with each year of changing attacking talents. The then-current state of Tottenham’s play raised questions of focus and health. Harry Kane continuously showing his importance to Spurs, and other talismanic league talents are discussed. Andrew delves into the purity test of commentators’ views on toughness. The debut of the Hover-Højbjerg Half-Hour, as well as Andrew’s foolish optimism about Spurs’ then-recent run of results. Out-of-favor talents and the inconvenient truth of their imperfect humanity, with the balance of a redemption arc. Recorded on 2/7. Big clubs want bright managers— Julian Nagelsmann of Leipzig looks primed for a leap after this season, but where will he end up? United are showing the promise that they have known in the past, and half the season yet to prove their position in the Prem. COVID is the new reality in our world and in sports as well, but the disease can also inflict itself on top athletes. We weigh the moral balance of enjoying the competition while being aware of the present risks for real humans with real lives involved in the action. Recorded on 1/6.
