One woman is willing to accept the compromise. If she cannot have the child, neither can the other. Winning the dispute matters more than the child's life. The other woman responds very differently. She would rather lose the argument than lose the child. She pleads with Solomon to give the baby to the other woman if it means the child's life will be spared.
