Following the death of the Arian Emperor Valens, the synod of Antioch in 379 sought the guidance of Gregory to restore Constantinople to Nicene orthodoxy. With many prominent churches still led by Arian bishops, Gregory transformed his cousins villa into the Anastasia chapel. From this intimate setting, he delivered five compelling discourses on Nicene doctrine, elucidating the nature of the Trinity and the unity of the Godhead. These profound sermons, known as the Theological Orations, played a pivotal role in eradicating Arian influence from the city by the time Gregory departed two years later. (Jonathan Lange).
