About Theologyology

We talk about theology, but we aren't theologians. We are here for discussions and thought experiments with occasional conclusions, but mostly we marvel at the complexity and mystery of the triune God. theologyology.substack.com

Theologyology Episode 10

Elise and Elizabeth are BACK and we are talking about the Biblical, scientific, and cultural definitions and beliefs about our make-up: our bodies, spirits, and souls. While we didn’t mention this in the episode, we continued down this rabbit hole after we stopped recording and found some new info, and had some new insights to share, so this will be part 1 of this discussion. Part 2 will bring back our recurring guest and bestie, Kristin Giacopelli, who is responsible for some of those new insights. We are launching our paid version on July 1! You can pledge a subscription by logging into your Substack account on desktop, navigating to your account, and entering the settings. If you scroll way down in settings, you’ll see a section titled “subscriptions”. There, you can click on any publication to manage your subscriptions, including pledging a paid subscription for newsletters that are currently free. We will announce more membership info over the next couple of weeks! Thanks for listening, we love you, and God’s love for you is so big, you can’t even imagine. This is a public episode. Theologyology Episode 9

This week, Elise was off on a floor refinishing adventure, but our friend Jen Asdorian joined me to talk about how we look at belief versus faith, and it was a juicy one! We also chatted about Jen’s road to this point in her faith, from the New Age world that once brought her joy, but ultimately caused her harm, to the Christian faith, where there’s space for our grief and our hope. Thank you, Jen, for your vulnerability and strength. This one is going to be a blessing to folks! Give it a listen, and don’t forget to like, subscribe, comment or share to help us keep the momentum going! You can also watch the video of this episode here [https://youtu.be/XnN3q8wzMDk]. Theologyology Episode 8

In Episode 8, Elise Keller [https://open.substack.com/users/96640447-elise-keller?utm_source=mentions] and Elizabeth the Fake Librarian [https://open.substack.com/users/84558742-elizabeth-the-fake-librarian?utm_source=mentions] are back again with our friend, Kristin Giacopelli [https://open.substack.com/users/101150128-kristin-giacopelli?utm_source=mentions], owner of the Wholeness Center in Rocklin County, NY. After a little break for illness, graduations, and spring yard work (if we are being real) we are back! In the days after our last episode with Kristin, she received so many questions about Jesus from many of her friends, that we brought her back to talk about how we talk about Jesus and answer those questions, about how we know we can trust the Bible, and that Jesus is not just the way, he is THE way—the one and only. A few titles we mentioned in this episode: * The Case for Christ, Lee Strobel * Kingdom of the Cults, Walter Martin * Death to Deconstruction [https://thefakelibrarian.substack.com/p/death-to-deconstruction?r=1ecdxy], Joshua S. Porter * Praying Like Monks, Living Like Fools, Tyler Staton * Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis * Surprised by Hope, N.T. Wright We also recommended the “Can I trust the Bible?” [https://www.wesleyhuff.com/can-i-trust-the-bible] sermon series from Wesley Huff, and The Bible Recap [https://www.thebiblerecap.com/start] podcast and Bible reading plan. We are just about to launch our paid content! If you want to lock in $5 per month for the first year, you can pledge your subscription on desktop. Go to the Substack menu, and navigate to your account and subscriptions. Once you find Theologyology, you’ll see an option to pledge a subscription! This will enable us to get some better equipment and software, and intro and outro music!! Keep your eyes peeled for a blog post in this space about the perks of becoming a paid subscriber. Thanks for being a listener. If you want to come on and chat with us, reach out in the comments, or DM us. We would love to talk about Jesus and weird Christian stuff with you! And thanks to Kristin for joining us again. We love to have you. If you want to watch the video recording of this episode, you can hope on over to Youtube by clicking here [https://youtu.be/Vj7yb3ZxZHc]. Love, Elise and Elizabeth This is a public episode. Theologyology Episode 7

In Episode 7, Elise Keller and Elizabeth the Fake Librarian chat with our friend, Kristin Giacopelli, owner of the Wholeness Center in Rocklin County, NY. Kristin is another one of our friends from Caroline Dooner ‘s Bible Study/God Talk phenomenon over at Problematic on Substack, and an ex-new ager exploring her faith as a Christ follower, and she asks thought-provoking and challenging questions. (Our favorite kind!) This is a long one, but it gets better as we get deeper, and some of the best stuff is after we start saying we should wrap it up. We eventually decided to leave it alllllll in, so when you hear us saying "we can always edit this out" just know--we didn't. Expect this to be part 1! A few things we referenced in this episode below (if we forgot something, just ask!): Elise’s sweatshirt, available at (not joking) antistate.net. Lol Elizabeth mentioned (again) Surprised by Hope by NT Wright, and also How God Became King, from the same author, which I referred to as—something else. But this is what I meant. We also talked about The F*ck it Diet by Caroline Dooner yet again. Elise recommended an episode of The Bible Project podcast: “Who is the Son of Man?” [https://bibleproject.com/podcast/theme-god-e14-who-son-man/#?utm_source=web_social_share&medium=shared_podcast] The video of this recording is also available here [https://youtu.be/_eiq0MIHqzc] on Youtube! We also have some small but exciting announcements about the podcast! You can find us now on Spotify, Pocket Casts and Apple Podcasts, as well as Youtube! If you love listening to our chats, please subscribe on whatever platforms you prefer. Next, we are getting ready to launch a paid subscription level to support our work, and help us get a little bit of much-needed hardware and software to improve the quality of our casts. Currently, we have the pledge level set at $5 per month. This is so that folks who are early supporters can pledge that now, before we go live, and lock in that fee. Once subscriptions are turned on, we will revert to the recommended subscription price. It is not super easy to figure out where to pledge your subscriptions, but if you’re a free subscriber you can navigate to manage your subscriptions on desktop and pledge from there. We will announce a timeline within the next week, and in the meantime, would love to engage you in a little discussion about what perks we could offer subscribers without limiting folks from receiving the main content if they aren’t able to pay. Keep your eyes on notes for that! We are a little iffy about offering a paid subscription, but as we realize the time and attention this takes, and incur some minor expenses, we have also had supporters let us know they would to give in some way. We are doing this for joy and for Jesus, and we hope our prayerful decision isn’t going to offend. Please do not feel obligated!! Have a question for us to discuss, or a topic you think we should do a deep dive on? Please let us know in the comments. Thanks for listening! Love, Elizabeth and Elise This is a public episode.
