In 1972, the Toronto Society for Psychical Research invented Philip, a fictional ghost, and attempted to bring him to life through séances, table tipping, and collective belief. The group soon reported unexplained knocks, moving tables, and messages from a spirit who had never existed. Was the Philip Experiment evidence that the human mind can create a ghost, an example of psychokinesis, or an elaborate paranormal hoax?
