Marriage Matters: Overcoming Roommate Syndrome

In this episode we are talking about the very common theme of "roommate syndrome" that inevitably shows up inside of our marriages. Why does it show up, what causes roommate syndrome to occur and how can we rid our marriages of it. How does Gods role in our marriage help alleviate this revolving and stagnant cycle from continuing when we focus on Him? Roommate syndrome is a physical side effect that reveals itself inside of a marriage when the spiritual nature of the marriage is being ignored. The marriage is hungry and it is not getting fed, so it sends a signal to us and tries to communicate with us to draw inward and draw our attention to the problem areas. Roommate syndrome does not mean you "married the wrong person", nor does it mean that you are "no longer compatible" or have "fallen out of love". It also doesn't mean that your spouse is solely responsible; but rather the slow decline of intentionality, forgiveness, and time spent in Gods word are revealing themselves within the marriage covenant. I am sure you are familiar with these very commonly used statements as they relate to marriage and I am here to tell you that non of these statements have a place in covenanted & biblical marriage and there is something you can do about it! Marriage Matters: How porn distorts and ruins intimacy PART 2

In this 2 part episode, we talk about how destructive porn is in general but more specifically in marriage and within the covenant of marriage. How it distorts and ruins the intimacy between husbands and wives which is purposefully in alignment with the enemies goal in widening the wedge and causing marriages to die; physically and also spiritually. We live in a world that glorifies and nullifies the effects it has on humanity as a whole and how it makes its way into homes destroying the union and covenant bond. Besides the fact that God created the human body as a sacred physical representation of Himself, by being created in His image (Genesis 1:26-27). He also created sexual intimacy to be kept within the protective limitations of the covenant for the glory of our soul and spiritual beings as a way of preserving not only marriage but life itself. Marriage Matters: Can a Marriage be Successful if you aren't "equally yoked"?

In this episode we explore the frequently asked and debated question; Can a marriage be successful if you aren't "equally yoked"? The short answer of it is YES, because with God ALL things are possible. We do not serve a limited God that is limited to our human abilities and perspective. In a marriage where there is an "unbelieving spouse" or a spouse who isn't actively seeking the wisdom and knowledge of God in order to strengthen and solve marital issues that arise that produce unity; the believer who actively seeks God, will and can receive the divine protection of God. That is the blessing of a covenanted minded marriage vs a contractual minded marriage. What we must realize first and foremost is that it is not about our spouse and their lack of obedience but our own. Are we ourselves living out the ways of God within our marriage or do we too allow our sinful nature to lead our thoughts, behaviors and actions? Are we being image bearers within our own marriages? Are we allowing ourselves to be changed by God OR the actions of our spouse and our own sinful nature that desires to rebel, be prideful, hold contempt, have unforgiveness, harden our hearts, remain stuck in our own ways, fall into hopelessness, faithlessness? Are we believing what the world says or are we believing God? Regardless of the success of our marriages who do we serve...God or ourselves? Are we dying to our old ways and being made new in Christ? Marriage Matters: The effects of idolizing your spouse & marriage above God PART 2

In this two-part episode we are dissecting and analyzing the ways that we consciously and subconsciously idolize our spouse and marriages above what God calls us to do, and who He calls us to be. How we allow our flesh to control the ways that we show up, treat and work through our issues within our marriages. We are going to explore what it means to "die to yourself daily" in relation to our marriages and the benefits and blessings that come from doing exactly that. Doing marriage Gods way is not for the faint of heart because it means that there will always be areas in our marriages that we must take personal inventory and accountability for how we are showing up and in fact choose to die to ourselves, daily, if not minute by minute. The covenant is a sacrificial agreement we make with God, not just each other. Its a oath to God that we will show up and do what He asks of us not succumb to our feelings, emotions, frustrations, and dependence on one another's illusionary perfectionism, rather marriage will reveal just how much we are to depend on God. If the marriage covenant is a reflection of how Christ loved the church-the body, then we must really look at the actions of Jesus, what did He do for us? He died and He honored the Father regardless of the limitations of the flesh that He was in. In His weakest moments while in the body He cried out to God for perseverance, wisdom, knowledge, guidance, restoration, renewal; so that we may reap the fruits of His blessing. Such as marriage which will require the same. Jesus didn't die for us because we were "good", "right" or "perfect" He died because God is and we are made in His image. Once we see that functioning under the mindset of a "contract" is a fundamental flaw in the success of marriages we can begin to align our actions, words, behaviors, and habits to the WILL and way of God and realize that its all about Him, not each other. Putting God first allows us to receive the best parts of one another like the gift and blessings He promises us by doing so. Lets get ROOTED!
