Eric, Brittany, and Caspian, all from the United States, share their story and perspective of experiencing life-changing adventure. Eric, Brittany, and their son Caspian are a full-time overlanding family traveling the world in their Jeep Gladiator, which doubles as their home and carries their Alu-Cab Canopy Camper living space. Eric, originally from Seattle and a retired U.S. Coast Guard veteran, brings experience in self-defense, medical care, and vehicle recovery, while Brittany, born in Ontario and raised in Texas, handles the intensive logistics and organization that long-term international travel demands. Caspian, who has been a traveler since birth, has already slept in all of the Lower 48 U.S. states and visited dozens of national parks by the age of five. Their journey grew from a conventional life running a small business and pursuing a comfortable home into a 10–15 year plan to drive around the world, after years of RV travel evolved into international overlanding. Guided by their family mission statement—“Love. Explore. Study. Share.”—they focus on meeting people, challenging media-driven stereotypes, and helping their son understand cultures firsthand so he can advocate for friends across the globe. Sabine and Sebastiaan, both from The Netherlands, share their story and perspective of experiencing life-changing adventure. Sabine and Sebastiaan, known as Puffin on Tour, are a Dutch couple who left their regular jobs in law and shipping for a life of adventure and travel, seeking more freedom and connection to nature. Their journey began with local camping trips and evolved into extended road trips across Europe, including memorable travels through Scandinavia, the UK, and Italy. Influenced by other travelers and motivated by curiosity, they embarked on a honeymoon overland trip through Morocco, intending to explore global cultures and possibly find a quieter place to live outside the crowded Netherlands. Key skills they bring to their travels include Sebastiaan’s mechanical experience from maritime work and car ownership, and Sabine’s DIY projects and wildlife tracking. Essential items for their journey include a water filtration system, phone for community connections, binoculars, wildlife books, and an off-grid wash bag. Their vehicle—a modified Land Rover Defender called “Puffin”—is specially equipped with a rooftop tent and practical storage systems for extended travel comfort. Throughout their adventures, Sabine and Sebastiaan emphasize the importance of curiosity, embracing diverse cultures, and open-minded engagement with locals, despite occasional challenges like language barriers and adjusting to cultural norms. Their advice to others is to start with small adventures, use available resources, and be open to unexpected, meaningful moments that arise from connecting with people around the world.
