Bob White (Founder, RCA) on Building a $950m Data Business in Commercial Real Estate

Today’s guest is Bob White, founder and former CEO of Real Capital Analytics (RCA). RCA is one of the most comprehensive providers of global commercial real estate data. Bob founded RCA back in 2000 after 14 years in real estate investment banking and brokerage. He grew the business for over 20 years before selling it to financial data juggernaut MSCI for $950m in 2021. Bob is now an active advisor to early stage startups, real estate developer, and Chairman of the Advisory Board for UVA’s Center for Real Estate. My guest this week is Jody Kochansky. Jody spent almost 30 years at BlackRock where he served as Chief Architect and Head of the Aladdin Product Group. Aladdin is a portfolio and investment management software platform that powers Blackrock's $10tn asset management business as well as the businesses of other major financial institutions like Vanguard, MetLife, Freddie Mac, and even Japan's Government Pension Investment Fund. Today Aladdin manages north of $20tn in total assets and Blackrock's Technology Services division reports revenues in excess of $1.4bn. We talk about the origin story behind Aladdin, building software within a financial institution, and Jody's thoughts about AI and the future of fintech.
