Relationship Series: 2.) 7 Ways To Invest In Your Relationship

In a Blended Family, even a simple phrase like, “I love you” can be confusing. When we say “I love you” what does that really mean? In the English language there are 9 definitions for the word that we do loosely use. Use of the word, “love” can be confusing even in our relationships. We use the word love to refer to the last football game we watched, or the first sip of our morning coffee. When our partner expresses they aren’t feeling loved, what are they trying to communicate…that they want to watch more football? In today’s episode Blended Family Crusaders Michael and Christina Fisher discuss the Greek words for love, and how recognizing and using each one will strengthen your relationship. They will share personal stories from their own life to get you thinking about the many different ways you can invest in your own relationship.

An Unheard Voice in Blended Families and Divorce

After watching both of her biological parents get divorced twice, and being part of 4 Blended Families, our oldest daughter Ally shares her remarkable story of love, patience, acceptance and perseverance.  Today’s episode will help you understand the perspective of your child, all in different ages. Through her story you’ll have a greater understanding of what your child is too afraid to share with you, but is vitally important for you and your children to move forward.  Whether your child is young, adolescent, or adult, Ally’s perspective is unique because she has been through divorce of all ages. Our past does not define us, but can make us into something great, but only if we choose.

episode 8. What Going to a Conference Taught Us About Blended Families artwork
8. What Going to a Conference Taught Us About Blended Families

Being able to find the connections between two different ideas is a key to rapid growth and expands your ability to help others. In this episode we share some of the things we learned from Brendon Burchard’s Influencer 2019, and how those things apply directly to Blended Families. We are leading a Crusade to eliminate the cycle of divorce that plagues our society. All that would happen for evil to take over in the world, is for good people to say nothing. In a similar way, all that would have to happen for something to change in this world is for one generation to decide to do something different. The pain and heartache experienced through divorce can be eliminated in one generation. All it takes is one generation to do something different. Our Crusade is about building and leaving a legacy. A legacy of core values and principles that live on far after we leave this earth. We hear about those who come from privilege or advantage. We hear statistics about how a persons zip coat is the number one factor that predicts a persons success in life and what they accomplish in life. But people rise above the statistics of their zip code and environment everyday. How do they do it? They most often do it because a persons real privilege or advantage does not come from how much money they grew up with, what school they attended, or the color of their skin. They rise above because the greatest predictor of our success comes from the parents and mentors we had and what they taught us to believe about ourselves. Legacy’s are built by being present and parenting on purpose. One of the most emotional times for me at the conference was listening to Brendon share stories about the things his parents taught him intentionally. It was such an emotional moment when he brought his Mother on stage to be recognized. Brendon Burchard, Rachel Hollis and others shared some many stories about the people in their life that just showed up. That’s what our kids will remember. They will remember that we cared enough to show up. They will not remember most of the things you did. They will not remember the words you say. You will not be perfect, but they will remember that you showed up. In this episode we share these thing and many other insights related to blended families that we took this years influencer conference.
