Discover the inspiring journey of Missionary Leann Shcherbyna as she shares her experiences as a missionary in Ukraine, highlighting resilience, faith, and hope amidst chaos. In the face of unimaginable adversity, how do we find hope and strength? Missionary Leann's story offers a powerful testament to resilience and faith during the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. In this blog post, we will explore her experiences living through war, the impact of faith in dark times, and how communities can support those enduring hardship. Missionary Leann Shcherbyna is a seasoned missionary who has dedicated over twenty-three years to serving in Ukraine. With a deep commitment to her community and faith, her insights offer a unique perspective on the challenges faced during the ongoing conflict. Leann’s journey in Ukraine has not been without its challenges. As she describes, "The last two years have been the most difficult and the darkest time I’ve ever lived through." Living in Krivuty, a city on the front lines, Leann and her family have faced daily threats from bombings and missile strikes, which have become a grim part of their routine. With the front line dangerously close, they often wake up to news of attacks in their own city, emphasizing the gravity of their situation. Daily Life Amidst Conflict: Life in Ukraine has dramatically changed due to the war. Leann describes the struggle for necessities: In the beginning, it was power outages for four hours, followed by two hours of electricity. We often went without water, especially during the winter months." The challenges have intensified as infrastructure has been damaged, causing long periods without power and water, making daily life a struggle. Key Takeaway: The resilience of communities under siege highlights the importance of faith and support during crises. The Power of Faith in Adversity Despite the overwhelming darkness, Leann finds strength through her faith. "God is faithful, and He does not fail, even in the chaos and destruction," she emphasizes. This belief has been a guiding light for her and her family during these tumultuous times. The Importance of Community Support Leann reflects on the importance of community and prayer during their struggles. "The only reason we are here right now is that you prayed. It’s an answer to prayer," she shares, expressing gratitude for the support received from friends and family back home. This sense of community has been vital in helping them navigate the harsh realities of war. Key Takeaway: The role of prayer and community support can provide hope and strength, even in the darkest times. Humanitarian Efforts Amidst the Chaos: Leann and her team continue to provide aid and support to refugees fleeing the conflict. "We’re still able to feed about a hundred families a month," she notes, highlighting the ongoing need for humanitarian assistance as the war drags on. Their efforts include not just food distribution but also spiritual support, with opportunities for refugees to hear the gospel and receive encouragement during their hardships. Continuing to Live Life Fully Even amidst the war, Leann emphasizes the importance of maintaining a sense of normalcy. "You still have to live your life, you know?" she states, mentioning ongoing family camps and children’s activities as ways to keep hope alive. The church remains active in outreach programs, proving that life continues, despite the surrounding chaos. Maintaining hope and normalcy is crucial for communities living in conflict zones. Leann’s story is a powerful reminder of the strength of faith and community in the face of adversity. As she continues to serve and support her community in Ukraine, her message resonates: even in the darkest times, hope can prevail.

The Table Series - Table Of The Lord - Pastor Matthew Anderson

The Nourishment of Community: Why You Can’t Get This Kind of Food Anywhere Else In today's message, I want to talk about the concept of the Lord's table and the nourishment it provides. This isn't just about the physical act of communion but about the spiritual nourishment we gain when we gather as a community of believers. The Importance of Communion in the Early Church In Acts 2:42, we see that the early church was committed to four key practices: the apostles' doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer. They didn’t merely attend church; they engaged in deep communion with one another through the Holy Spirit and God’s Word. This kind of community is irreplaceable. While you can find entertainment, information, and inspiration elsewhere, true communion—the kind that nourishes our souls—can only be found within the church. It's a special kind of food that we simply cannot get anywhere else. The Hunger for God’s Word One crucial element to receiving that nourishment is a deep, genuine hunger for God. In Matthew 5:6, we read, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." This hunger is about recognizing our need for God’s grace and mercy. When we come to God's house, we should come with an open heart, ready to receive fresh nourishment from His Word. The Bible describes itself as living and active. It’s not just a historical document; it’s alive and has the power to transform our lives. Just as our physical bodies need food, our spiritual selves require the Word of God to thrive. This is why it’s essential to consume it regularly, allowing it to penetrate our hearts and minds. The Living Word as Nourishment In Jeremiah 15:16, the prophet says, "When I discovered your words, I devoured them; they are my joy and my heart's delight." God’s Word is meant to be consumed and internalized. It nourishes our souls like nothing else can. The more we engage with the Scriptures, the more we find joy and strength in our faith. Moreover, Hebrews 4:12 tells us that the Word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword. It doesn’t just skim the surface; it goes deep into our hearts, revealing our true motivations. When we read the Bible with an open heart, it challenges us, encourages us, and ultimately transforms us. The Power of Community The act of gathering as a community amplifies this nourishment. When we come together, we share our experiences, our struggles, and our joys. This sharing creates a rich environment where God’s Word can thrive. It’s in these moments of fellowship that we truly experience the fullness of Christ’s love and grace. As we participate in the Lord’s table, we remember the sacrifice of Jesus and the grace that binds us together. It’s a powerful reminder that we are not alone in our journey of faith. We support each other, encourage one another, and grow together as a community. Conclusion: The Call to Serve Together As we wrap up today’s message, I want to emphasize the importance of service within our community. God has called us to serve together, to lean into one another, and to be a source of strength and encouragement. Remember, you can’t get this kind of food anywhere else. Let’s continue to gather, to share, and to nourish each other in faith. Key Takeaways: - The communion of believers is irreplaceable. - A genuine hunger for God’s Word is essential for spiritual nourishment. - Gathering as a community amplifies the impact of God’s Word in our lives. - We are called to serve and support one another in our faith journey. Let’s go forth, hungry for God’s Word, ready to serve together and share the nourishment that comes from being part of His family.
