“And there was great joy in that city.” Acts 8:8 Joy overflowed in the city of the Samaritans who received the gospel. The gospel message was brought by Philip, a member of the early church displaced by persecution, whose joy in the Lord was not snuffed out by the tribulation he experienced, but overflowed into the lives of those who received the message he preached of Jesus Christ.

In our study tonight, Jesus ascends the mountain and His disciples come to Him and he begins to teach them. As we explore the scene prior to Jesus’ teaching, we are posed the question, what is my posture before Jesus? Am I coming to Him as a disciple ready to learn or as one of the crowd curious but not committed?
