A SECRETIVE religious group that wields power in Washington, D.C. and other world capitals — sounds like the basis for Dan Brown’s next novel, but it’s real. Jeff Sharlet, author of The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0060560053?ie=UTF8&tag=peeringintoda-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0060560053], has been following this group for years, even living at The Family’s headquarters for a time. What he found is a group that justifies its pursuit of political power by claiming that it’s for the kingdom of God. Read Jeff’s original expose of The Family, “Jesus Plus Nothing,” at Harper’s Magazine online. Christians are taking heat for The Family from the likes of The Huffington Post and MSNBC. The irony is that The Family isn’t promoting a Christian agenda, but a New Age agenda. See Constance Cumbey’s five-part series The Family and its Hijacking of Evangelicalism [https://www.newswithviews.com/Cumbey/constanceA.htm].  As Jeff Sharlet asked, where is the outrage from influential evangelicals? Sarah Debates Steve Hanke: The Institutional Thinking Crisis - Sarah Westall

Professor of Applied Economics at The Johns Hopkins University, Steve Hanke, joins the program to discuss the current economic reality facing the United States.  What began as a discussion on inflation, economic policy, and the direction of the U.S. economy evolved into a much broader and at times tense debate between Sarah and Hanke — one that reflects a growing divide between academia and real-world systems thinking. While Sarah deeply respects education, research, and expertise, she challenges the limitations of highly siloed institutional models that often dismiss broader systems analysis, incentive structures, and real-world complexity. Hanke, coming from one of the world’s most revered academic institutions, holds strong conviction in his own economic frameworks and appears far less open to questioning alternative models or interdisciplinary perspectives. The result is a fascinating and revealing conversation that goes beyond economics itself and touches on: * institutional authority, * academia versus industry, * systems thinking, * intellectual hierarchy, and the growing tension between credentialed expertise and broader integrated analysis in an AI-driven world.Whether viewers agree with either side or not, this conversation captures a much larger societal shift now unfolding across institutions, media, economics, and public discourse.Visit Steve Hanke’s website at SteveHanke.com Sign up for the Deep Dive Peptide Webinar at SarahWestall.com/Peptides - Link to the Replay will be postedSee exclusives at SarahWestall.Substack.com

Iron & Myth 50: The Blood is the Life (Vampires in Hollywood and the Bible) - A View From The Bunker

THE BLOOD is the life. It’s a memorable line from the classic 1939 film Dracula. It’s also a reference to Genesis 9:4–6 and God’s prohibition on the shedding of human blood. The vampire, of course, survives by violating that prohibition on a regular basis.  This month, our Iron and Myth crew—Doug Van Dorn (DouglasVanDorn.com [http://douglasvandorn.com/]), author of Battle for the Bible’s Truth, and award-winning screenwriter Brian Godawa (Godawa.com [http://godawa.com/]), best-selling author of the new novel Daniel: Exile in Babylon—discuss the depiction of vampires by Hollywood, their historic descriptions in ancient texts, and the surprising appearance of vampires in the Bible. Sadly, our friend Dr. Judd Burton (BurtonBeyond.net [http://burtonbeyond.net/]), author of Interview With the Giant, was unable to connect due to technical problems. We promise to have that corrected for next month!
