(2026_05_30) - Q & A on Understanding the different gradations of love(Part 2) - Juniors BM - Pastor James Akinjide
In this episode of the Gadites USA Juniors meeting, our Pastor continued the series on the subject of love, building upon the foundation established in the previous week. He reiterated that love is not self-generated but originates from the Godhead, and its true definition is found only in God, as stated in 1 John 4:16. The teaching emphasized that love is a commandment, not a suggestion, and its nature can be cultivated by acquiring the knowledge of the truth that is in Jesus.
The core of the message focused on the “gradations of love,” explaining that love has different expressions and strength levels based on relationships. Just as human relationships dictate the depth of love shown—such as the unique love between spouses compared to acquaintances—God also expresses His love differently. While God loves all men and desires their salvation, He does not share the same depth of relationship or fellowship with everyone. The Pastor highlighted that the fruit of love is giving, and the measure of love is determined by the level of relationship.
Furthermore, the teaching outlined four broad categories or gradations of love: love for all men, love unto all the saints, love of the brethren, and love of God. Love for all men, including unbelievers, is described as superficial because the relationship lacks depth. However, believers are still called to show this love through their lifestyle and conversation, drawing others to Christ. Love unto all the saints involves sharing and supporting fellow believers, regardless of denomination, while maintaining a firm stance on the doctrine of Christ.
Ultimately, the Pastor distinguished between “neighbor” and “brethren,” noting that while we are commanded to love our neighbor as ourselves, the love for brethren—those who share the same doctrine and testimony of life—requires a deeper commitment, even to the point of laying down one’s life. This deeper love, referred to as charity, involves sharing one’s very life, not just material goods. The session concluded by encouraging believers to exercise wisdom in how they measure out love, ensuring they are guided by the Holy Spirit rather than being exploited.
