What Is the Church According to the Bible?

What is the Church according to the Bible—and does our experience of church match the picture Scripture gives us? In the first cup of Pot 3, Cody Hudson opens Matthew 16, Acts 2, and 1 Peter 2 to examine what Jesus established when He said, “I will build My church.” Many Christians use the word church to describe a building, a Sunday service, an organization, or a collection of programs. Those things can serve the Church, but none of them fully defines what the Church is. The New Testament describes the Church as the people of Christ living under the lordship of Christ. Believers are a spiritual family devoted to biblical teaching, fellowship, prayer, shared life, mutual care, and discipleship. We are living stones being built together with Christ as the cornerstone. This episode asks some important questions: • Have we confused attending church with being part of the Church? • Are we sharing life together or simply sitting in adjacent chairs? • Would our local church notice if someone began drifting, struggling, or hurting? • Have our expectations been shaped more by Scripture or by what feels familiar? • What responsibility has Christ given each believer within His body? This is not a season of deconstruction, cynicism, or attacking pastors, denominations, traditions, church buildings, or Sunday gatherings. Pot 3 is an invitation to open Scripture and examine the biblical descriptions of the Church so we can realign our expectations, assumptions, and participation with Christ’s design. Does Our View of the Church Match the Bible? | Pot 3 Trailer

What does the Bible actually say the Church is supposed to be? In this trailer for Pot 3 of Grace in the Grind, Cody introduces Christ and His Church—a season built around examining the assumptions, traditions, preferences, and familiar practices that often shape our understanding of church. Many of us inherited a particular picture of church without ever stopping to ask whether that picture fully aligns with Scripture. We can easily confuse tradition with biblical conviction, attendance with discipleship, activity with maturity, and personal preference with faithful practice. But the Church is more than a building, a weekly service, or a religious organization. Scripture describes her as the body of Christ, the bride of Christ, and the household of God. That changes the questions we ask. Instead of only asking, “Did I get something out of church?” we begin asking, “Am I helping build up the body?” Instead of only asking whether a church is growing numerically, we begin asking whether its people are maturing spiritually. Pot 3 will explore the biblical nature, mission, leadership, community, worship, discipleship, unity, conflict, and everyday life of Christ’s Church. These conversations may challenge some familiar assumptions, but the goal is not to attack traditions, criticize pastors, or tear down local churches.
