#12. In this jazz piano lesson, we cover 'Side-Slipping' - a sophisticated-sounding jazz piano technique which creates a modern sound. Discover when and where to use side-slipping, and the 'trigger' I look for in a song's melody for me to use side-slipping. As always, I'll show you a simple practice exercise for you to learn this essential jazz technique. #11. Discover 3 new exotic jazz piano sounds and reharmonization techniques - which you can use to spice up your playing today. In this episode I'll show you the whole-tone scale (and how to use this dreamy, yet sophisticated sounding scale in jazz). We'll look at a reharmonization called 'the flat 2 reharm'. And I'll show you a film noir style ending, featuring the 'minor 6 chord'. All 3 techniques are easy to understand and play, but they add a lot of sophistication to your jazz piano playing instantly. #10. In this episode, I'll show you the sophisticated sound of 'upper structures'. 'Upper structures' are a sophisticated type of chord voicing for jazz piano, used to play dominant 7 chords. They're built of 6 (or sometimes 7) notes, and require two hands to play. In this episode you'll discover 4 upper structure triads which you can play in your right hand - each chord produces its own set of chord extensions, from flat 9ths, to sharp 11ths, flat 13ths, and more. I'll also show you how to practice upper structures, building them from all 12 notes. By the end of this lesson, you'll know how to voice any jazz song using 'upper structures'. #9. In this episode, I'll show you the sophisticated sound of 'fourth chords' in jazz. I'll show you how to voice the main types of 7th chord using 4ths (instead of 3rds). I'll show you how to practice playing 4th voicings by building them from all 12 notes. By the end of this lesson, you'll know how to voice any jazz song using 'fourth voicings'. #8. In this episode, I'll show you 3 types of 'open voicing' which you can use for any 7th chord - including major 7, minor 7, V7, ø, dim 7, and more. Open voicings sound clean, and allow you to span the bass, mid, and treble ranges with each chord voicing you play. I'll show you how to practice open voicings by building them from all 12 notes. By the end of this lesson, you'll know how to voice any jazz song using 'open voicings'.
