Order the book that inspired the podcast, Language of the Soul: How Story Became the Means by which We Transform at dominickdomingo.com/books [http://www.dominickdomingo.com/books] When the plot of life breaks, the real story begins. We open Season Three of Language of the Soul Podcast by returning to the book that inspired it, using  Chapter One: STORY and TRANSFORMATION to map the path from crisis to opportunity, from strife to paradigm shift. Conflict resolution is the means by which we transform, individually and collectively. Through the ripple effect, personal transformation always equals cultural evolution. To help us explore the content of the book, were joined by regular guests Mythologist and Midlife Coach Andrea Slominski, PhD and Author, Vocal Coach and Creativist Rene Urbanovich. Together, we connect narrative therapy, archetypes and the collective unconscious with the chemical basis of storytelling to show why stories are more than entertainment. They’re the means by which we transform. We would love to hear from you! Send US a text message. Chapter Five: Finding Your Voice

Storytelling is having a weird moment. Everywhere you look, “creativity” gets treated like a growth hack and “story” gets treated like a persuasion engine. We push back on that and make a different claim: story changes minds by touching hearts, and the real prize isn’t attention, it’s transformation. If you’ve ever felt pressure to “find your voice” for social media or self-branding, we slow that down and ask what voice actually is when you strip away trends, markets, and metrics. We dig into voice as the marriage of craft and purpose, using Maya Angelou’s life as a stark reminder of what it costs to bury an untold story. Then we follow the muse into stranger territory, through Phantom of the Opera and the mythology of the underworld as a metaphor for the unseen subconscious where inspiration germinates. Along the way we talk Jung, shadow work, catharsis, and the fine line between creating from pain and keeping pain alive. We also get practical about what blocks creative flow: perfectionism, fear of rejection, outcome-fixation, and the intimidation of competition. We explore how education can stifle creativity when rules harden into dogma, why technique is only a toolbox, and how purpose-driven creativity can turn doubt into conviction. Finally, we look at art, propaganda, and cultural sanitization, and why honest storytelling still matters when everyone wants a safer narrative. If this hits home, subscribe, share the episode with a creative friend, and leave a review. What’s the story you know you need to tell? We would love to hear from you! Send US a text message. Chapter Four: STORY and IMAGE

What if the most powerful stories say almost nothing at all? We dive into a world flooded with images—pop-ups, trailers, remakes, and feeds—and trace how visual storytelling can either numb us with spectacle or wake us with meaning. From the fatigue of franchise blockbusters to the surprise of a humble shadow puppet performance, we unpack why certain frames cut straight to the limbic system while others leave us counting explosions and checking our phones. As filmmakers, teachers, and lifelong watchers, we look at how images bypass cognition, trigger emotion, and imprint memory faster than words. That leads us through cinema’s fork in the road—style that serves theme versus style that swallows it—and into a tour of quiet films that let faces, bodies, and light do the talking. We also explore the ethics and impact of modern image culture: Chernobyl selfies and the erosion of awe, algorithmic feeds and overexposure, adolescent encounters with porn without context, and the delicate balance between protecting innocence and empowering curiosity. Along the way, we highlight how representation reshapes norms, from early reality TV visibility to stories that plant healthier scripts about identity, love, and belonging. Zooming out, we trace a line from cave hands to propaganda posters, from MTV’s quick cuts to today’s sound-saturated screens. Images sell the American Dream, diamonds, and debts—but they can also sell empathy, courage, and care. The choice is ours. If a picture is worth a thousand words, it’s also worth a moment of silence to let it land. Hit play to rethink how you watch, what you share, and which visuals you let inside.  If this resonates, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a quick review so more curious listeners can find us. Chapter Three: Archetype In Modern Storytelling

What if the images you trust most—tree, bridge, horizon, circle—are part of a shared vocabulary you already speak? We open with a rapid-fire symbol exercise that reveals how quickly a room converges on meaning, then follow those threads into design, myth, and modern storytelling to ask why certain shapes and colors feel inevitable. Is that universality taught by culture, etched by evolution, or both? We explore the debate between Jung’s collective unconscious and developmental psychology, using dreams as a bridge—pre-language image streams that may have seeded today’s archetypes. Along the way, we map popular characters to timeless roles: the Innocent from Ophelia to Selma, the Orphan and Everyman in Disney and Dickens, the Hero confronting the shadow from Beowulf to Star Wars, and the Sage as conscience, oracle, and Blue Fairy. We also unpack how an eagle can mean freedom or predation, and why context, not absolutes, decides the read. This is a craft-forward tour through archetypes, tropes, stereotypes, and cliché with practical takeaways: how to harness universal patterns without copying, where tone becomes your freshest frontier, and why East–West cross-pollination in animation has been shaping frames for decades. You’ll leave with a clearer grip on when a device resonates, when it reduces, and how to design images that hit the gut first and the head second. If this conversation sparked ideas for your next scene or shot, follow the show, share it with a friend who loves story craft, and leave a quick review—what symbol means the most to you right now? Chapter Two Roundtable: STORYTELLING and CATHARSIS

What if catharsis isn’t a single dramatic release but a daily reset that turns judgment into compassion? We sit down with artist and educator Greg Spalenka to explore how story, image, music, and spiritual practice can move us from fear to presence—and why that shift might be the most important creative skill we have. Chapter Two: STORYTELLING and CATHARSIS

Order the book that inspired the podcast, Language of the Soul: How Story Became the Means by which We Transform at dominickdomingo.com/books [http://www.dominickdomingo.com/books] "Take your broken heart—make it into art." —Carrie Fisher, actress.  In this episode—fifth in this season's exploration of the Language of the Soul book—we explore the mechanics of catharsis. From the moment Aristotle coined the term to assign cultural value to the arts in the face of fascism, the catharsis art provides has transformed us emotionally, while shifting our thought forms and paradigms. The cleansing is threefold: the creative process serves as purgation for the artist, then vicariously for the patron. And as always, through the ripple effect, society evolves in kind.  Order the LOTS book at Dominick's Author Page [https://www.dominickdomingo.com/theseeker] We would love to hear from you!
