Jess, a White woman, and Bry, a Black woman have created unique offerings in the DEI space. Bry’s company, 1619 Consulting LLC, focuses on three pillars to achieve a racially equitable workplace: knowledge, introspection and action. Headed by Jess, Just Pursuits focuses on three stages of change: Collective conversation, collective action and collective impact. Together, we have created Lunch + Unlearn, a brave space to investigate the hidden systems that have shaped our views and perpetuated oppression. Focused on discussions around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, with an intersectional approach – and a specific focus on race equity – we dig into the facts and feelings around these complex topics. We explore our understanding, and the experiences related to the intersectionality of race and… LBGTQIA+, sexism, ageism, ableism, and classism. Drawing from our lived experiences, we may not always see things the same way but we’re committed to honesty, openness and unlearning all that living in a racialized country has taught us.
