Descripción

Around every Memorial Day, I make my way to Mount Vernon Cemetery in Abington with a cigar in hand and a heavy sense of gratitude. It’s become a personal ritual for me. One rooted in remembrance, reflection, and respect for the Marines and service members who never made it home or who carried burdens after service that eventually claimed them.In this special 2026 Memorial Day edition of Oscar Mike Radio, I wanted to share what this day truly means to me. Memorial Day is more than a long weekend, cookouts, or the unofficial start of summer. It is a day to pause and remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country. As I walk through the cemetery and see the flags placed beside headstones, I think about fellow Marines from my time in the Corps, brothers and sisters we’ve lost over the years, and the families forever changed by their sacrifice.I also reflect on those we lost after they came home, veterans who fought battles long after taking off the uniform. Their stories matter too, and they deserve to be remembered alongside every fallen service member who answered the call to serve. One of the things that gives me hope every year is seeing communities come together to honor the fallen. Ceremonies, volunteers placing flags, families attending memorial events, and young people learning why these traditions matter remind me that remembrance is still alive. Freedom has a cost, and Memorial Day is a reminder that generations of Americans paid that price for all of us.I encourage everyone to take even a few moments this Memorial Day to stop, reflect, and honor those who gave everything. Visit a cemetery, attend a ceremony, say a prayer, or simply take a quiet moment of gratitude. We owe them that much.To all the Gold Star families, veterans, volunteers, and communities who continue to keep these memories alive, thank you.

494 – Brendan Kelly - The Echo of Silence

In this episode of Oscar Mike Radio, I had the privilege of speaking with Brendan Kelly, an Army veteran whose 22 years of service took him from Air Defense Artillery to recruiting and ultimately to a new mission as an author.Brendan shared his military journey, the lessons he learned while serving, and the challenges he faced after the uniform came off. What makes this conversation especially powerful is his willingness to speak openly about his mental health struggles, including surviving two suicide attempts. His honesty is a testament to the strength it takes to ask for help and the importance of building a support system when life feels overwhelming. We talked about the transition from military service to civilian life and how Brendan unexpectedly found purpose as a high school teacher, continuing to serve others in a different way. We also discussed his novel, The Echo of Silence, a story inspired by his own experiences and the struggles many veterans and civilians face every day.At its core, this conversation is about resilience, hope, and the power of human connection. Brendan's message is one that everyone needs to hear: no matter how difficult life becomes, no one is truly alone.Thank you, Brendan, for your service, your honesty, and for sharing your story with the Oscar Mike Radio audience.

Love Letters from God - The Rock of Salvation

Today's reading comes from Psalms 69, 70, and 71, where we are reminded that even in our deepest struggles, God remains our refuge, strength, and salvation. Psalm 69 shows us that when life feels overwhelming and we cry out for help, God hears every prayer and sees every tear. Psalm 70 is a heartfelt plea for God's help and protection, reminding us that we can call upon Him at any moment. Psalm 71 declares that God is our Rock of Salvation—a firm foundation that never changes. From our youth to our old age, He remains faithful, guiding us through every season of life. No matter what challenges you face today, remember that God is your shelter in the storm, your strength in weakness, and your hope for tomorrow. Key Verse: "But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more." — Psalm 71:14May today's Love Letter remind you that when the world feels uncertain, the Rock of Salvation remains unshaken.
